January rolled around and Karen headed back into L.A. Bernice and Agnes would spend the next few weeks helping Jon out with all the kids, while she was concentrating on her career. Karen found out that, due to her absence of almost 2 years, her record sales had slightly gone down, but not terribly down. She still managed to sell a lot in her collection. The cheques still kept on coming with the royalties. And these were in the millions. By this time, when Karen checked with her financial advisors, she had in excess of 47 million dollars. She had invested millions in different businesses, restaurants (she and Jon shared a restaurant), and apartment complexes (she had over 30 buildings) and still had lots leftover. She also donated millions to various charities and was thinking of starting an anorexia foundation for those who were starving themselves to death. Especially with the ever recent loss of her neice of which she was thinking of putting her name on the memorial foundation.
The movie part that Karen was being considered for was a part with a non singing role named Tricia. She was to play the best friend of a woman Adrienna, who was murdered and Tricia ends up falling in love with her late friend's husband Don. It was a part thriller/drama, and was directed by Award winning producer Penny Marshall, and Penny knew within an instant that Karen would be perfect for the part. The movie was called LOVING YOU ALWAYS and also co-starred Mark Harmon, her ex boyfriend(which was silly as they had only gone out a few times and it was nothing serious), and ironically Bette Midler as her best friend. The movie was to be filmed in Canada, but the location of the story was to be in Montana. Upon learning of his wife's murder, Don becomes the lead suspect, while Tricia (Karen) tries everything within her power to convince the authorities that he is not the one. The end comes to a dramatic conclusion. Karen would be filming for about 2 months, and while in Montana, her biography was already being put together at the factories, and by April, would be in the bookstores. She was a bit apprehensive about this, but decided to focus her worries on her movie role. She loved to be able to work with her co-stars, and truth be told…she got along just fabulously with Karen. Bette apologized to Karen for all those nasty remarks she had made about Karen, and of course, Karen said it was nothing. They did dinner together, and Bette showed Karen the ropes with acting in a movie. Karen was very grateful and adored the world of movies, so far. She hoped to be able to do movies in the near future. Maybe even a musical. The 2 months went by quickly, although for Karen, it was really tough on her being away from her children and Jon. The last day of shooting, Karen left for California as soon as she could. She and Bette would be getting together in the future and recording a duet for Bette's upcoming album. Bette had even confided to Karen that she loved her version of SUPERSTAR which made Karen feel very special.
Upon arriving at the L.A.X airport, she was met by John. The kids were at home on the acreage, with Richard, Mary and their family visiting and watching the whole brood of kids. They decided to spend the night in a hotel, and needless to say, they did not get very much sleep that night. But they didn't mind the tiredness that they felt in the morning. Karen's satisfied smile seemed to say, It was worth it! Karen had been nominated for 2 Grammy Awards for her VISIONS AND DAYDREAMS single Karen was unable to be at the ceremony but found out that she had won forBEST PERFORMANCE BY A FEMALE for VISIONS AND DAYDREAMS. She was thrilled.
Karen spent a week with the family before going on an extensive 2 month or more book tour. If everything went well, she might add an extra month or so on her tour. She would be focusing on L.A., New York, among other places in the U.S.A., England, Japan, Canada and Australia. She would be promoting it on Television, Radio and at Bookstores all over, signing autographs, and reading excerpts from her biography. She would sure miss her family, but luckily, she would be able to get away for 2-4 days every 2 weeks and head back home for a quick visit with her family. The touring was grueling and very demanding, and the little visits home seemed to give her the energy to continue on touring. She hated it when her kids would cry when they saw her packed bags by the door, but she knew it had to be done. Maybe one day they would understand that as an entertainer, she was heavily committed to her fans and to the entertainment world. She tried to explain to them, that the money she made enabled them to have the life filled with good things that others were not
