Chapter Twenty-Three
They awoke, and had a breakfast in bed brought to them. Karen was just smiling, so happy and so much in love. It all seemed like a dream, but she knew that it was for real. Jonathon crawled over her and kept on kissing her, as she tried to eat her breakfast, but to no avail. "Jonathon! Not now! Let's save it for later! We have to get up and get ready for brunch! Everyone will be waiting!" said Karen, while trying to catch her breath. "Let them wait," was Jon's response, and Karen agreed, as they held each other in a warm embrace.
Finally they did get up, and start to prepare themselves. They drove to their home, and were greeted by a lot of family and friends for the brunch and gift opening. The brunch was lovely, and Karen ate with such enthusiasm, which did not go unoticed by Agnes, who started to weep quietly. Her daughter was finally so happy, so cured, and so full of life…it had taken years, but finally, everything was falling into place.
Karen and Jonathon just wanted to leave, but they knew that they had to stay and open some of the presents, and there was piles upon piles. Mary took the wedding book and began to record who gave what gift, so that when the Thank You cards were sent out, they would have the right person and the right gift. Evelyn Wallace, also assisted Mary, as there was so much to do. They received paintings, crystal, china sets, lamps, cushions, bedding, towels, silver, drapes, pillows, books, kitchen utensils, patio set, lawn equipment, money gifts, gift certificates and so on. Karen and Jonathon were deeply touched and moved. It wasn't really the gifts or how expensive they cost, but the love and sacrifice that went into it. Everytime they would use the gifts, they would think of that person who gave it to them, to make their day special.
By the end of the gift opening, Karen was in tears, and everyone was given a hug by Karen and a handshake by Jonathon. Karen's parents gave the newlyweds a cruise vacation for 10 days sometime in the future. Karen was so touched when Jon's parents gave her some antique jewelry that had run in the family for centuries. These were something that she would treasure. Richard and Mary also gave them some new baby furniture and equipment, hinting that maybe soon their would be another baby in less than 10 months time. Karen blushed, as Jonathon just laughed and gave everyone the thumbs up sign.
More photos were taken, and Karen wore a peach, silk jacket and same skirt. Underneath the jacket was a lacy, cream, silk shirt with no sleeves. Karen wore a peach purse, with matching earrings and matching heels. Her hair was cascading down her back, and some of the hair was pulled back by a peach barette, with tendrils of curls escaping it. She looked just like an angel. Jonathon wore a white suit, with a peach shirt, and a cream colored tie. He looked very dashing, as they made the perfect couple.
Finally they left, as Evelyn and Florine would look after their place, while they were gone. They left amid cries of good luck, with confetti and rice being flung at them. Attached to their jeep, was a trailer, with all the essential camping things they would need for Canada and the Rockies.
Their trip was gorgeous, and so full of good weather. They would sit side by side in the jeep, with their arms linked, as they talked about anything and everything. Karen had never felt this much happier in her entire life, and she now knew what others had been talking about in their lives, when they said that they were truly in love. The hours just passed by, as the nature around them swirled by.
That first night, they unhitched their camper, and Karen rummaged around inside the camper fixing it up. The bed was nicely made, with some rose petals on the satin red pillows. She wanted everything ready for her man, the one she loved. She put on a nightgown, which was very sexy and very seductive, and she combed her hair out of the ponytail and lay herself on the bed. This would be their night together as only a man and woman could know, and she wanted it to be something she would always remember.
She had sang hundreds of time about love, making love and all the passion that went with it, but now, she shivered in anticipation for his touch and embrace. She quickly dabbed on some perfume, and freshened her make-up. He entered the trailer, and saw her there, his eyes just popped open. He had been standing outside for the last few minutes, feeling like a scared little boy. He had been with other women before, but this was his first marriage, and so this really meant something to him and he wanted everything to go just fine. He wanted to please her, and make her happy in every way possible. She looked just so gorgeous there. He had always thought she was an extremely attractive woman, but until now, he never realized just how stunning she was. A goddess of some sort. And she was his. The gods must be smiling down on him, he thought. He took off his shirt, as he came towards her, and he grabbed her as gently as he could, and they kissed. He wanted to know her, and for her to desire him. The minutes passed, and they turned into hours. All track of time was gone, as they focused on each other. Any other thoughts just vanished as they became one. Time seemed to stand still.
When they did separate, the dawn was slowly creeping into their trailer. While they were laying there, holding onto each other, Karen began to sing in her crystal clear voice… Morning opens quietly A shadow vision over me I knew you well Hidden by the window pane And all my sadness gone charade Begins to fade How long it stayed Patterns of another day Awaken slowly out of gray A tolling bell Rolling down the avenue It's calling all my dreams away My dreams are songs I play
Jonathon was so moved, that he kissed her and said, "I love you Karen. I am so excited that we are spending the rest of our lives together. Your voice…so beautiful…I love who you are Karen, and I will spend the rest of my days, making you happy…" Karen silently cried, as they became one again. Such a wonderful moment. What had she ever done to deserve this kind of love? The gods must be smiling upon her now.
They spent days travelling thru the Canadian Rockies from British Columbia to Banff, Alberta, where they stayed at the luxerious Banff Springs Hotel, which was a Canadian Pacific Railway Hotel. It was gorgeous, and all the staff were kind and helpful, from the room attendants, to the bell men to the Culinary staff. It was equisite and wonderful! The room that they stayed in was beautiful. The fanciest in the Hotel. The Presidential Suite. It cost a lot, but they were having such a good time to even care.
When they left the town of Banff behind them, they carried on to the flat but beautiful Prairies of Saskatchewan and Manitoba. They drove thru Ontario, Quebec, as well as the Maritime provinces. They didn't have enough time to thouroughly enjoy the sights and hospitality of the Canadian people or culture. They planned to come here some other time, with more time to spare and just to relax.
They found themselves so much in love, and all during the day at various times, they were caught staring at each other for no reason at all. They were passionate all during the day and night, making up for lost time. Karen knew in her heart that she was expecting. Call it woman's intuition, but she knew, and she was so happy. She kept this to herself until she knew for sure. The trip back was just as lovely, even though they didn't want to go back. They wanted to stay forever in this paradise of just the two of them.
Yet, they were both excited to get back to L.A. and to their home. They had been talking about some new renovations on the house, as this was now their home. Jonathon would be contributing financial help as well, since his bank account was loaded, with all the different chain of restaurants he owned all over the U.S. Karen was glad, that he had his own. She had always been scared that a man would come and love her just for her money.
They stopped through Seattle to drop in and spend the night at Cherry and Dan O'Neill's home. Cherry and Karen spent lots of time just talking and sharing. Karen really felt herself get really close to Cherry and she was very glad that they were friends. Cherry and her sisters were in the middle of recording their gospel album, and Cherry mentioned to Karen that she was welcome to sing with them for a selection. Of course, Karen was delighted.
Another one of her dreams was coming true…to sing on a Gospel album. The Boone sisters were quite popular in the Christian Contemporary world, and with Karen adding her vocals, well, it would be a big hit.
Driving back to L.A. they headed back to their home, and spent the next several days in utter seclusion. Florine went on a trip, and Evelyn had gone back to her home, leaving the lovebirds alone. But it was not to last, as the Grammy Awards were upon them. Karen was so glad that Jonathon would be by her side. They would be making their professional debut as Jonathon and Karen Andrews. During this time, PEOPLE magazine did an exclusive on their wedding titled JONATHON AND KAREN ANDREWS…ONLY JUST BEGUN TO LIVE
