We're always hearing about groups and songs that sound Beatlesque. How about some songs or artists whose songs have that Carpenters sound. Think about the vocals, the lyrics, musical arrangements and overall song choice. One song which comes to mind for me is; Destiny by Anne Murray. The sound of the song almost reminds me of I Can't Make Music.

:)Just off the top of my head..they once could vocalize perfectly in my book ..is Donny and Marie and/or the Osmond brothers. I can easily imagine Richard and Karen having their own sounds for Let It Be Me, or I don't know what else..even though Donny and Marie have high high vocals.. Richard and Karen loved coming up with their own special melodies and songs, and also loved doing the oldies because that's what they grew up with. They recorded even older songs that I was not familiar with such as "I Can Dream, Can't I?" on the Horizon album..and I know they recorded many others fitting in that line of songs. How about Rosemary Clooney's "Come On-a My House"...or the oldie Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy ..!? R. and K. could surely put out and keep together on such fast tunes. David Cassidy with the Partridge Family who actually it was David and S. Jones and others vocalizing...anyway, they put out that harmony somewhat. The whole idea of so many songs our favorite couple could have put out is really boundless I think because of their great vocals and Richard's excellent way of putting it all together along with their band too. cool cool smoothie

The Captain and Tennille. Gee an easy listening pop music duo on A&M records who had #1 hits and won Grammy awards in the 70's - sound familiar?
But seriously, I always felt Air Supply used a lot of similar techniques in their musical arrangements and vocal productions.

:)Even though this thread was started sometime ago, I happened to think of the group "THe Mama and the Papas"..great vocals and harmony. I think the Carps recorded Calif.Dreamin' anyway. Air Supply are wonderful too and Cap. and Tennille. The Hollys (Holliessp?) also.

I always thought that Madonna's "This used to be my playground" had a very Carpenteresque feel to it. All the harmonies in that song are great, especially for Madonna! I remember someone on the E! channel mentioning it, too. They looked at it as an insult to Madonna, but if they had taste, it is the highest compliment that anyone to pay her. Madonna isn't much of a singer, so a comparrison to Karen is the tops!

I agree that any comparison to theCarpenters that Madonna may receive is a compliment in the highest form. It's true at best Madonna is only an average singer and at best the musical of her arrangements are very good. Karen is considered to be one of the finest singers ever in the history of music. And Richard's arrangements are considered trendsetting.
