I remember a film that I thought was an excellent tribute to Karen and contained some of my famous songs. Is it possible to get hold of it on VHS or DVD? I don't mean the terrible one with Barbie dolls but the proper film that starts with a young Karen skating through a hospital with ill Karen on a trolley.

I was fortunate enough to record it on video when it was aired in 1989. It seems like the movie should have been released on video/DVD by now.
I'm still waiting for a new movie on Karen. One that gets deeper into the person Karen was. More into her thoughts and her passion for the drums.

:)hello Han and welcome to this site..I am pretty sure that I have seen different folks trying on e-bay to sell their VHS copies of the Karen story you refer to. I don't have it, but would like to even though it is sad of course. I agree with Rick in that another movie or biography just about Karen should be made. Anorexia is a terrible thing and I'm glad that people are well aware of it now maybe directly because of what Karen went through, but she was so much more..her legacy is much more. I don't think she ever really realized how much she was loved. She longed to be so much on her own and would be now if she was still alive. The Carpenters' as a music entity was so immeasurable and meaningful, but she was her own person with dreams of a normal life of marriage and children.

Have been constant fan of Karen and Richard since 1971. They sell video tapes of movies and everything on Ebay. Have gotten some, but bad quality as they keep re-recording them.. Hate to see people that never liked them , making a fortune off them. I still miss Karen, no one can match her voice as hard as they try. Cant believe it has been 20 years.............

It is hard to believe it's been twenty years now. It's seems like only yesterday that I would listen to my radio waiting for my favorites songs and Karen was played on almost every station.

TEXT :)Absolutely! ::)It must be really hard for Richard even though he has a great family and kids now, it still must be hard to not be with Karen and their parents. I am glad though, as someone mentioned, that Karen was getting better during her last days of life. She was feeling better because of re-hab and gaining some weight. She was feeling maybe more rested too and hopeful about the future. It's just that her body had been in a struggle with the disease for a long time.

:)hi Laura! hi John, and Han and anyone else who'se just clocked in to this site! Even though Karen is gone, the Carpenters will always live on ..they entertained the world for a lot of years. Just think of how very often they would have to sing the same songs over and over night after night and to undergo all the pressure and every day problems that came up. It takes lots of dedication and love and talent to keep all that up and devotion of their fans seldom if ever really waned.

If you cant find "The Karen Carpenter Story" on E-bay, try watching Lifetime, they show it often.

ok ..had a thought but it went out the door , soooo forget that last post.. I think that Karen's voice never was weak at all..she was always on key .. I do recall a video sample I saw from one of their early shows on tv ..she was in a bright pink outfit sitting in a large yellow form of the letter U and singing "Close to You". The first time I watched that, it didn't dawn on me that the fun "pun" part was that she was sitting inside the letter U. Always seeming very natural, not nervous as if oblivious to the crowds. Her hair was very long and she had a wide hair band on as was popular at the time, legs crossed and singing and swinging her legs slightly. At that point in her career, little did she realize how very popular and infamous she and Richard would become and the band too.
