:)Through ebay, I recently bought the Carpenters live cd and video filmed in Budokan japan in '74. It's a fairly rare recording I think and therefore usually costly. I haven't seen the video yet, but the cd is great. It's the only one I have which is recorded live. The music basically the same, but a little more off the beaten path because it is recorded live. There is much more synthisizer (sp?) and rather excellent yet wild guitar stretches on a few songs that are not heard on the standard records. Karen sings with a children's Japanese choir on the song "Sing" the american version and then in Japanese which is very touching and beautiful. So, if any of you are wondering about it , or have that on your wish list to get, you can probably find a good buy on it on ebay, and it's great.
katt......oh why oh why Karen..you never realized how very wonderful and talented you were..you never realized that there may have been many other options besides recording music for you.And thanks for the music!

greetings Katt - is your VHS copy of Live In Japan compatible with U.S. video player format? I've seen copies of it listed on Ebay and other places but it is never compatible with U.S. formats. I would really like to see this concert.

Live In Japan is outstanding. My favorite is Leader Of The Pack. Sounds like Karen had fun singing it.

Hi Rick: The VHS tape is necessarily compatible with the US, as Japan uses the same NTSC system as the US. The DVD is region coded for Japan only, so you'd need a code-free DVD player to play it.
The reason why this concert video is never released in the US is because there are Japanese subtitles on it. Evidently the concert master tape was lost and the video was made from a TV program tape with the embedded subtitles. I suppose the technology exists to remove the subtitles, but the potential sale in the US does not jutify the cost to do so.

I also think the live version of Mr. guder is really good. But my fave from the album is Sing in Japanese. The song is such a great song.

[glow=red,2,300]TEXT[/glow]I just love the whole thing, but yes, I think R. and C. may have been a little apprehensive about how the children's Japanese choir would make out in the long run..but they were just great. Of course, if someone as beautiful and sweet as Karen was helping me do something, I'd jump over the moon for her! I just can't believe that so many yrs. have passed since those times. the great thing is that their music became even more special as time went on and both R. and Karen gained even more knowlegde and talent with their singing. smoothiekatt
