For those of you who don't know me, my name is Mariah Andrews, a lifelong Carpenters fan. I recently had a tragedy in my family and I know that my grandmother is up there with Karen and that she's being entertained by her music.
I've written a book that mentions the Carpenters several times and I wonder if there are any other TV shows, books, Movies that talk about the Carpenters or their music besides mine. I am sure that there are others out there.
My book is called "Awakening From Broken Dreams" about a troubled kid named Richie who wishes he was a girl. He names himself Karen in honor of Karen Carpenter.
I am aware that a star in the heavens was named for Karen a while back with the Star registry.
I mean no disrespect, having a transsexual name herself after Karen. I meant it in a loving way and I pray that Richard Carpenter will not sue me nor scorn me for writing this book.
Well, I've come a long way since I last posted here. I am now a journalist in the Coachella Valley and I am working on a third book, not Karen related in any way.
Rick, you have a wonderful page going and I am also available on MySpace as well.

Thank you for asking those two questions, Rick. Mariah, I think you are an old member of this forum, right? I think I recognise your name. Ming

I know that my grandmother is in good hands right now. As a reclaimed member of the Church of Religious Science, we describe her death as (making her transition.) As for my book, I am sad to say that it hasn't sold that well, but those who have bought a copy say a lot of good things about it. And that it's nice to know that a kid Richie's age is a major Carpenters fan. Just go to any bookstore like Amazon.com and type in my name or the title of the book, "Awakening From Broken Dreams" and you'll see it. Or if you want a free e-book, (readable with Adobe Acrobat any version), simply email me at LeslieMariah@desertlocalnews.net
I am also a regular writer with DesertLocalNews.com, my place of employment.

There was a South Park episode that did mention Karen Carpenter, which was the "Brown Noise" episode, where Cartman (the fat kid) was trying to discover the Brown Noise on his recorder and said "It will make you c*** yourelf until you look like Karen Carpenter." and Kyle asked, "Who's Karen Carpenter?"

I heard on the FM radio "The super duper Carpenters, Goodbye to Love", after the song played.
