I just purchased both the new CD Carpenters Perform Carpenter, and the DVD release of Interpretations.
Neither of them have anything new that I haven't already heard or seen. Though I'm happy to have interpretations on DVD as I prefer DVD over video. The reason I purchased Carpenters Perform Carpenter was in hopes of possibly a few different pictures, but all the pictures included have been printed before. The liner notes are new written by Bill DeMain.

[shadow=red,left,300]I already have all these remixes on other discs, but several of the songs seem to sound brighter, enhanced somehow. this is especially noticeable on "Crystal Lullaby" the song seems to have a new glimmer about it. I also bought the DVD but haven't had a chance to look at it yet[/shadow]

[glow=yellow,2,300]Just finished listening to "Perform Carpenter" again. Although there aren't any surprises or anything new, it just gives me a reason to listen to The Carpenters again. Karen's voice is always excellent. She has such a rich warm sound.[/glow]

I agree that the quality of this disc is pretty good. One thing I still don't quite understand is that why discs pressed in Japan are always that much better than those pressed here in the US.

Well I have been a fan ever since 1970 - even playing truant from school (my one and only) to queue for tickets for their cancelled concert (first time she was ill).
However I am getting sick and tired of this re-cycling of their songs. I actually obtained As Time Goes By from Japan, because majority of stuff was new but this new release won't find it's way onto my player. Please RC start writing new stuff, getting new artists to sing it for you AND possibly get back with John Bettis.
We keep hearing how RC is going to work with K.D.Lang or Shania etc. yet nothing ever happens. And what about doing some concerts in the U.K. PLEASE.
I think the Carpenters have now released more re-issues than they ever recorded when Karen was alive.

Hi Chris from England. Although I did buy Carpenters Perform Carpenter and I've enjoyed the new liner notes and the new sound some of the songs seem to have; mostly "Crystal Lullaby", I am also somewhat disappointed with this release. It seems that every year yet another Carpenters compilation is released - it's almost overkill. But on the other hand, this is also a good sign. If there wasn't a demand for the Carpenters then all these compilations wouldn't be released. Though I would still rather have another release of previously unreleased tracks such as; "As Time Goes By". Hopefully in a few years we'll see another. In the meantime I'm sure Universal will release another compilation within a matter of nine months.

I bought this compilation and will continue to buy every compilation put out by The Carpenters. p.s. still waiting for DVD release of TV specials and Live In Japan.
