I have just found and watched the 1984 Japanese TV special "The Sayonara." Although this show is scripted and is interspersed with commercials, it features some good video clips of conversations with Frank Pooler, John Bettis, Herb Alpert, Burt Bacharach, Agnes & Harold Carpenter, Richard's car collection, A&M studios, Karen's needlepoint work, their residences, and extensive footage from their 1974 concert at Budokan. It is very moving to see Richard singing along with some of the concert videos, signing his autograph for a new generation of students at what appears to be a school where he used to attend, and delivering his tribute to Karen (from the "Voice of the Heart" album). Overall, the visuals accompanying the music get better toward the end (especially for "Only Yesterday" and "Those Good Old Dreams") as they show more of Karen and Richard and their personal effects.

In their own special way, websites like this are an important broadcasting medium that informs and entertains long-time and new fans alike and helps them to discover and re-discover the legacy of the Carpenters in cyberspace "where there is no space or time" to divide people across national borders or generations.
