As I watch the thermometer numbers get smaller on this frosty, moonlit evening, these words come to mind...don't ask me why, they just do:
"Phil: When Chekhov saw the long winter, he saw a winter bleak and dark and bereft of hope. Yet we know that winter is just another step in the cycle of life. But standing here among the people of Punxsutawney and basking in the warmth of their hearths and hearts, I couldn't imagine a better fate than a long and lustrous winter.
I remember a cold winter morning 24 years ago, when suddenly life became bleak and dark, because of events happening a continent away. But today, we know that passing is just another step in the cycle of life, and that it is not an ending, but merely a transition.
And so we say "I remember you" with all our hearts.

Each day like an eternity - eternity but a day. I still get by on Karen's sweet, sweet smile and her enchanting voice. A day without Karen is like a day without sunshine.

Karen Carpenter was (and still is) the voice of a lifetime. No other singer has penetrated my soul and reached in like Karen has. As a young teenager (I was 13 in 1973) I would listen with the headphones on and Karen's voice just seemed to shine. I would look at the pictures on the album covers and somehow in her radiant smile and big brown eyes also seemed to shine. As the years went on (now 17 in 1977) I still loved Karen and I knew that she was going to be a singer for a lifetime (my lifetime). Now look (47 years old in 2007) I still love her as much as I did 30 years ago. I only wish she was still with us recording new music. Though life has happened as it has and though it is sad I am also happy to have her memory in my life.
Thank you for the music!

Wonderful tributes, every one. It can't be said too many times how helpful it is to have this group of understanding fans. Though it will always be a sad day we can find strength for our journey, in that Karen journeyed so well and helped/is helping so many.

"When I was young, I'd listen to the radio waitin' for my favorite songs, when they played, I sang along, it made me smile......."every sha-la-la-la-la...every whoa...oooooh...still shines" KAREN SHINE ON SHINE ON! Wonderful tributes written out from our hearts and souls to a woman who was QUITE A SWEETHEART!!!!!!! ...........................<<<<<>>>>>>><<<<<<<<<<<<<>>>> ::)YES, SO MANY OF THE SONGS SHE SANG SEEM TO REALLY REFLECT AND/OR GIVE US A HINT INTO WHO KAREN REALLY WAS OR FELT... very chilling always Tim as you say in "A Song For You" .... other lyrics from I believe the song "You"....I have always been a dreamer, followed visions of my own... I was born to belong to the words of a song and make them my own."sss For some time now, I've had a tape of the K.C. Story with Cynthia Gibb. I have watched it over the yrs. and now probably have seen it at least a dozen times. Even tho a better movie, a more truthful perhaps big screen version could be made (and should), this is what there is. Of course, I suppose it may be a little foolish to watch that so many times, I'm still drawn to it. "The C's" as they were. One big attraction is that it's filmed I guess mostly there in Downey and the house. And then to see these actors portray such a talented over the top duo, even tho it's terrible to see the ending of tragedy, but I think it's very realistic. It may be the only movie to be done about them. Anyway, it's chilling especially when Gibb (really karen) sings A Song For You. That is such a reality song.

"I've been so many places in my life and time.... I've sung a lot of songs, I've made some bad rhyme I've acted out my love on stages with ten thousand people watching... But, we're alone now and I'm singin' this song for you. I know your "image" of me is what I hope to be... I've treated you unkindly, but darlin', can't you see... There's no one more important to me... Darlin' Can't you please see through me? Cause we're alone now and I'm singing this song for you. You taught me precious secrets of a truth, withholding nothin'... You came out in front, and I was hidin.' But, now I'm so much better..and if my words won't come together, Listen to the melody, cause my love is in there hiding." I love you in a place where there's no space or time... I love you for in my life you are a friend of mine... And when my life is over, remember when we were together.... We were alone and I was singing this song for you.... We were alone and I was singing song for you." Prophetic, isn't it? Chilling, I find. On this day, 24 years ago, I had heard the most devastating news I could have ever imagined hearing....Karen Carpenter had died of a heart problem. It just couldn't be. It had to be wrong. My mind would NOT wrap around the news. I didn't want to believe it. I went to the stereo, and immediately put on A Song For You, and...I wept copiously. Karen Carpenter was truly God's gift to all of us. She was bright, bubbly, beautiful, warm, and genuine. She had a voice that will remain unmatched for all time. It was one of a kind. Truly a most beautiful voice. A voice filled with love, and pain. I have honestly missed her every single day for the last 24 years, however, I am immensely thankful, and feel unbelievably blessed to have been witness to even a small piece of the life of this incredibly talented, gifted woman. Karen, you are so missed....but as the song goes "And when my life is over, remember when we were together - we were alone, and I was singing this song.......for you." Thank you, always, for the song. To Richard and family - We share in your pain and hope for you someday understanding and peace over losing Karen so young. Tim
