What is your favorite song from Karen's solo album and why do you like it so much.
***In all fairness to the album - please only vote in this poll if you have heard the entire album. There have been some of Karen's solo songs released on other compilations such as "Lovelines" and "From The Top" - thus giving these songs an unfair advantage. So, to be fair to all the songs in this poll - please only vote if you have heard the entire album (Karen Carpenters - solo) and know all the songs. ***

I also vote for "If I Had You", there is a lot going on and i could not make out some of the background voices. Maybe someday when i am in that relaxed but alert state.

For those of you who have been here a while my choice should come as no surprise and its Making Love In The Afternoon. I like Peter Cetera/Chicago quite a bit and him teaming up with Karen on this song just makes it all the sweeter. The song is pop at its best and I feel this would have been a top 10 if it was released at the time the slol record was supposed to be released in 1979. The style fit the late 70's early 80's pop music scene and with the three talents involved Peter, Karen and Phil Ramone I don't think it could have missed. I also think Peter hamonized perfectly with Karen when I first heard the song I did not know of Peters involvement and the harmonies right away stood out when I listened to it. Also it was the song that grew on me the fastest it was love at first listen. I must say I really loved every song off the solo record even the unreleased ones. Karen, Phil and company did an awsome job on this record. The fact that Karen was involved in every aspect of this record, had total control over it, and the fact that it turned out so well more than dfemonstrate to me how incredibly multitalented this woman was she was truely more than a great voice... so much more.

Well, this is hard for me, so for TODAY I'm picking Making Love In The Afternoon.
Making LoveIn The Afternoon is the song that follows me away from all outside sources of playing music. It keeps 'playing' over and over in my mind. I like the calm, happy, Up feeling I hear in Karen's voice and then she 'lends' me those good feelings for a while.

I'll come back later on with my choice from Karen's album. but in the meantime I must add a comment or two to your post, Tim.
I agree "If I Had You" is an outstanding selection. This is pure smooth jazz Heaven. I also love the complex vocal arrangment at the end. Karen did an outstanding job with her vocals here - though, we must not forget Rod Temperton for writing this vocal arrangment for Karen to sing (most prominently the vocal calisthenics at the end). What a great team Temperton and Carpenter - I wish they did more work together.

"Guess I Just Lost My Head" is my favorite song from Karen's solo album.
The vocal arrangement was written to fit Karen's vocal range perfectly. Karen even stated that she likened Rob Mounsey (who wrote the song - as well as composed the arrangement) to her brother Richard. Karen sings this one to perfection.
I also love the playfulness about it - it's a New York styled smooth jazz sound with a bit of a playful edge to it.
This one I feel has stood the test of time better than any of the other songs. It sounds good enough for today's smooth jazz stations to pick up on.
Rob Mounsey's keyboard solo is killer!
just a side note... although this is my favorite from the album... I actually love all the songs on Karen's solo.
