This photo was given to me today by friend of mine (who is a direct descendant of Elihu Yale who donated many gifts to Yale University which helped it become what it is today). This is the first time this photo has ever been on the internet. It was taken by my friend in 1991 at Richard's car museum named "Yesterday Once More" in Santa Fe Springs, California. a Carpenters Online exclusive

Hi Rick,
What an intriguingly candid photo of Richard! Unliked the many posed, cheery publicity photos that abound, this one shows a more reflective, older and wiser man in an unguarded moment. Thanks to you and your friend for sharing it with us!

He looks so much like someone I know in this photo that it's bugging me that I can't remember who it is! That's what happens after 50 years and a million or so miles.

Apparently comes from the Pianist, Arranger, Composer..... photo session. Federico, this photo is not from a photo session. This is a candid shot taken by a friend of mine in 1991 who went on a tour of Richard's warehouse like car museum in Sante Fe, California. I have cropped the photo as there are people in the background and Richard is talking with an elderly man wearing a pink dress shirt. I will scan the entire picture unedited so everyone can see what was going on. I will post it later on tonight.
Now about me looking like Richard. If you were to see me in person I don't think you would say I look like him.

Here is the full picture unedited. My first impression of the picture was that Richard just looks like one of the guys in the crowd.

I think your right Tim, I can see it too some video's I've seen, Richard is listening to old tapes they did before they became fames or he is asked a question about Karen, almost every time he fights back tears I really feel sooooo bad for Richard, in a way he's all alone on parents, no Karen sure glad he has that beautiful family of his but I think you are right, Richard looks sad
