"There have been brilliant rocket ascensions in recording and only a short stay aloft before the descent began."
From the podium of history, I'd say that so far, about 36 light-years in any direction would be a fair enough "ascension". And it just keeps on growing...

I have fond remembrances of this summer series. It was exciting to anticipate which album cuts and singles the C's were going to perform each week.
(I have often wondered if the alleged, but often refuted, urban legend of the cause of death of fellow performer Cass Elliot on this series affected K and in some way contributed to her anorexia.)
As an aside, The Mamas and The Papas were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998 and Cass Elliot's daughter represented her and accepted her award. Like the C's, The Mamas and The Papas are remembered for their sweet harmony, tight arrangements and timeless melodies.

Some time ago, I ran across this wonderful site. I think it's a very good one. I love the early pics of them and their guests. I don't recall seeing the show off hand but I am sure that my family and I did since we loved all those great long-gone variety shows. Thanks for bringing it up.
