This week's ep, "Scar", had a curious reference in it. While a group of fighter pilots reminisced about friends that had died in battle, in the quest to remember one of the pilot's girlfriends someone said "Karen? She was a Picon, right?" or something like that. It was completely unexpected, and caught me by surprise. The show will be repeated on Monday night if you want to watch for it. It was near the beginning.

That may mean the writers or someone who has influence on that show wanted to make a subtle acknowledgement on Feb 4 for Karen Carpenter. Maybe later we might see more Carpenter music in TV and movies!

Hi, Ken; The "Battlestar Galactica" show is set with a backdrop of twelve colonies whose names are basically those as the signs of the Zodiac. There are Capricans, Sagittarians, and...Picons. So, since her home planet was Picon, that's what her "nationality" would be. But you'd have to have sharp ears and a twisted mind (like mine!) to pick up on this. I also posted on Sci-Fi's blog about this, and thanked whomever wrote the reference into the screenplay.
