"Leave Yesterday Behind" was recorded in 1978 and finally released in 2001 on the album "As Time Goes By". What do you think about this song?

I absolutely love this song and its sound. I wish they would have released it as a single. I think it would have done well!

Very beautiful, elegant song. Wonderful. I remember the first time I heard it, on the net, before I got the album, and was blown away, and brought a tear to my eye, to actually be able to hear a "lost" track. Just gorgeous.

This song brought tears to my eyes the first time I heard it. Another great tune, like the early Carpenters hits. It has wonderful lyrics and wonderful melody, so, why was not released in it's time?. Because is it similar to "For All We Know"?. I don't find it so. If it's so, why not another Carpenters song in the same vein?. The Twist by Chubby Checker reached #1 position twice, and in the middle, Let's Twist Again reached #9 position. They are both similar. FAWK reached #2 in the charts, and LYB could do it better than "I Believe You" in 1978.

I think the song is just okay. I guess I am in the minority here. I think it is a pretty song, but nothing more than an album track. I am definitey glad Richard released it to the public, but can understand why it didn't make a previous release.

I love it. I think this song would make an excellent theme for a movie about love or a new beggining. Jim

I voted that I Love It. This is one of my favorite songs off ATGB and one of the best song I heard since VOTH Karen sings this song with so little effort and with such fluidity it amazes me that it is essentially a work lead. A great song I love it!

I know the Carpenters provided the theme that shared the title of the movie Bless The Beast and The Children but I was unaware of any made for tv movie themes. Time for a Google search. Sometimes Alta Vista provides entertainment information that is unique to them. It just might be. I know I could not name that tune in 3 notes### Cam was it a Canadian tv production? I would be so happy if its an unreleased song. Nothing makes me happier than a new Carpenters tune.

LEAVE YESTERDAY BEHIND Music and Lyrics by Fred Karlin This song was written for a made-for-television movie of the same name by Fred Karlin, who wrote the music to 1970’s “For All We Know,” of which it is reminiscent. Recorded in 1978, the same year as the film, Karen’s vocal is a “work lead”, sung so bassist and drummer could react to the melody and not just read a rhythm chart. The recording was not completed until 1999, when I added the orchestration and backing vocals. from www.richardandkarencarpenter.com

Thanks Cam, for posting the liner note info from "As Time Goes By" on "Leave Yesterday Behind".
Here's a little information on the movie itself. The movie was shown on May 14, 1978 on ABC television and starred Buddy Ebsen, Carrie Fisher and John Ritter. Ritter plays a man who is paralyzed from the waist down. I don't know if they included the song "Leave Yesterday Behind" in the movie. If they did, we know it wasn't the Carpenters recording.
