"Merry Christmas Darling" is the Carpenters' Christmas classic which we hear every year. Do you love it or do you think it belongs in the scrap heap?
This is a repost of the original thread. Somehow I accidentally deleted it as I was trying to update part of the forum. Sorry if you had already posted here earlier.

NO DOUBT...Just Love it!!!!!!!!!! a true classic..some time back, I was watching Regis and that's when it was Regis and Kathie Lee..... and they had some lady who sang it...and it was ok ...but I had never heard anyone else sing it, so , of course it was no match to the C's version! It's a true Karen classic.

I love it, love it, love it!!! There is no better Christmas song than this one - hands down. I never tire of hearing it. It rocks! Now if I could just get Richard to give me the royalties to Merry Christmas Darling for just ONE holiday season, I could retire immediately! LOL

Love It! Love It! Love It!
What else can be said about this glorious song. Rob stated it perfectly, "There is no better Christmas song than this one - hands down."

There is absolutely no doubt this is a Love It, all the way. This song just makes my holidays come alive. I love the richness of Karen's beautiful voice as she sings this beautiful piece. And, when I listened to it this year, even though I've listened to it each and every year since it came out, I felt like Karen was talking directly to us, her fans, telling us that she would still like to be with us as she sings "I've just one wish on this Christmas Eve - I wish I were with you - I wish I were with you." I'd never put this song into that context before, but it sure fits, and I felt so good listening to the lyrics, thinking about them in this way. It is as if Karen left us little gifts along the way with lyrics that bring her right back to us from time to time. And so, to Karen, I'm offering this simple phrase: "Merry Christmas, Darling (Karen)....we're apart, that's true - BUT, I can dream, and in my dreams, I'm Christmasing with YOU." And, that just MAKES my Christmas more special than I could have ever imagined. Tim

After numerous listenings (and accompanying drum playing) Merry Christmas Darling, to me, is the most moving and beautiful pop ballad ever written and recorded. And it's among my very favorite Christmas songs too. There's nothing else like it or like Karen's voice singing it. Dave the Drummer

I love it..., ' no doubt about it.
Something magical happened on Christmas Eve... I was with my mother, in my mother's car, driving to my sister's... The radio in her car doesn't work for years..., but, I was just curious to see if it was still broken, I played with the knobs a little and there was no reception at all... As I was going to turn it off, I heard Karen's voice..., I just couldn't believe it..., the radio played for only two or three songs and yes, The Carpenters *Merry Christmas Darling* was the first one to play.
I slept over at my sister's as I was going to dinner at my father's with her on Christmas day... When, my mom arrived at her house, she gave a phone call to my sister's and asked to talked to me... Guess what? As she tried to make her car radio work again, the first song playing was *Merry Cristmas Darling* again.

Love it! This is one of the best songs of the Carpenters. I listen to it quite often. 'Holidays are joyful, there's always something new' . I love Christmas.
