Many of the Carpenters' songs would have been excellent used as a movie theme. Which songs do you think would have worked well for say maybe a James Bond or possibly a Mel Gibson or Sandra Bullock film?

Great topic!
Some ideas that come to mind:
"This Masquerade" --- for a film about a mysterious femme fatale romantically involved with an international spy in a web of political intrigue --- a film noir style movie or a cold-war era James Bond type of movie
"A Song for You" and "Superstar" --- for a story along the lines of "Rock Star" starring Mark Wahlberg and Jennifer Aniston, in which an aspiring rock singer climbs the ladder of success in the crazy business only to find that he has to make too many compromises and leave the people he cares about the most behind, and then gives it all up for a simpler life
"The Night Has a Thousand Eyes" --- for a thriller about a deluded fan/stalker of a popular movie idol
"Desperado" --- for a Western about a cowboy who, appearing to be very stoic and independent on the surface, has to come to grips with his inner emotional turmoils and loneliness
"Look to Your Dreams" --- for a life-reaffirming classic movie like "It's a Wonderful Life" or "Meet Me in St. Louis" that features a song with all the characteristics of an American pop standard tune along the lines of "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas"

Excellent ideas GoodOldDreams. One that I thought of for a James Bond type movie was "Your Baby Doesn't Love You Anymore".

Also for the Rock Star movie you mention "Road Ode" would be a natural. That song is the epitome of the lonely rock star on the road who longs for home.
I've always felt "Let Me Be The One" would make an outstanding James Bond theme. With it's horn sounds it has that sound of urgency. The lyric "Some sleepless night if you should find yourself alone" - really seems to fit the whole spy lifestyle - "alone" and "sleepless night".
"I Just Fall In Love Again" would make a wonderful love theme for almost any movie.

"Road Ode" would be great for "Rock Star," as would be "I Can't Make Music" when the music idol ironically finds loneliness, emptiness and loss of inspiration for performing after living in a whirlwind of being lauded by critics and mobbed by throngs of fans.

A nice addition would be "Heather" as the movie's instrumental theme.

I suppose you're not talking about the 2001 Rock Star movie with Mark Wahlberg as it is a '80s Metal band movie. What movie are you guys talking of?
..., and of course as we've already discussed it on some thread in 2004..., This Masquerade could have been a perfect choice for a James Bond movie..., I can picture very well Sean Connery with a Bond girl relaxing near the fire place with this song playing in the background. Hi Roland - I think this "Rock Star" movie we're talking about is our own fictional movie - not any real movie just one we can imagine.

Oh, I see..., thanks.
You can still check out that 2001 *Rock Star* movie with Mark Wahlberg..., it's a simple entertaining movie, but, there are some funny things happening about the Metal scene in the '80s..., anyway, back to the topic. I love movies like that. somehow this one got by me. I remember watching one a few years ago about a kid (15 year old) who wrote for Rolling Stone magazine or some other well known rock music magazine. I don't remember the name of the movie but it was pretty good.

"where do i go from here?" could have been used in the movie Forest Gump. At the beginning part the lyrics go like this "lying on a bed of leaves, watching clouds through the trees"

The fuzz guitar passage and the lyrics on one's disillusion with love could fit right in with the storyline.

Variations of the fuzz guitar solo throughout the movie would work well. "Love Me for What I Am" would also make a good addition as our Rock Star just wants someone to love him for him )or her for her) and not for the fame and fortune.

???Splendid ideas everybody!!!...There are a wide variety of C's songs which help spur the imagination. I happened to think of "It's a dirty old shame when all you get from love is a love song" can't think of the correct title to that one...but I think it might fit a romantic comedy for Sandra Bullock, or Julia Roberts. And Hugh Grant has worked well with those 2. ....And of course along with those same type of shows "You're the One" and/or "I Know I Need to be in Love" .................................................

I like the idea of "You're the One" maybe being played during a love scene, or a make-up scene.
"Where do I go from here" could be played at the end of the movie as the character is standing on their own, ready for move on.
maybe "Sweet, Sweet, Smile" being played in a bar scene!
