Hi all! Just wanted to give you the good news. Palma Pascale (writer of the song "Love Me For What I Am") has agreed to do an interview with me. She says the story of how she teamed with the Carpenters is quite an interesting and big story. She says Carpenters was her first big break.
Anyway if any of you have any questions you'd like me to ask her please post them in this thread. I will be sending my interview questions through email on Monday 10-31-05.
This interview will appear on the "Interviews and Commentaries" board which is part of the 200 Club.

Kudos to you, Rick - what an exciting thing that Palma is granting you an interview. I do have a question for you to ask her, please. I have always loved this song - for the music, and for the lyrics. I've just always thought it was cool that Karen sang the lyrics "..for simply being me - don't love me for what you intend or hope that I will be.." cause afterall, isn't that what we all want? But my question would be - what/who was Palma thinking about in her own life that made her choose these lyrics? Is there a story behind these lyrics, and if so, what is it? Was the story about her, or were the lyrics written "for" someone else? I suppose, now that I think of it, that's more than one question! But, if you'd ask her, I'd be appreciative! You're the best. Thanks. Tim

Hi Tim, I will certainly ask Palma this question. Although I believe it was John Bettis who wrote the lyric while Palma composed the music. I could be wrong - she could have had a hand in the writing the lyric also. I will be finding all this out and more in the next few days.

Rick, it would make sense that Bettis wrote the lyric, and if that's the case, he most likely wrote it either for himself, or specifically for Karen. Either way, I still think it would be an interesting question to pose to her. I'm excited for you that you have this interview coming up. Good luck with it. I'm sure you'll do a fantastic job of asking all the right questions - you certainly seem to have the knack for it. Have fun and enjoy! Tim

Yes, I am looking forward to chatting with her. And I will certainly ask her about the lyric and how it came to be.
Cam also sent me a few great question which I will be asking her.

Hi all!
Here's the latest on the Palma Pascale interview. On Tuesday I sent her about 25 questions (including the ones from Cam and Tim). I've finally heard back from her today. Palma says she will take a few more days to answer the questions. This way she can tell her story in full.
Palma says the questions are great and very thought provoking.
Here's a short quote from the email Palma just sent me:
Palma says: The funny thing is, I've been told for years "You sound just like Karen Carpenter" and I have several albums worth of my songs recorded and arranged by me. I wonder if your visitors would enjoy them...

More updates on Palma Pascale. She just sent me another email with tidbits of information. She mentioned how big her first royalty checks from Carpenters were. She also said she's been superbusy in the studio and has not finished answering all my interview questions - but has promised to do so in the next few days.
Now for the biggest news - we finally have a face behind the song. Here's a picture of Palma. She's quite beautiful and even looks somewhat like Karen.

I didn't know Carpenters recorded a song "Box Office King" written by Ms. Palma. Hi makapip...
Palma stated that Carpenters were supossed to record "Box Office Movie King". I'm not sure if they did or not. Though I believe Palma will be writing more about this in Part Three of her story.
Palma I'd love to read more of the original lyric of "Love Me For What I Am".
