This song was a semi hit for Dionne Warwick in the mid 60's. Written by Burt Bacharach. Carpenters took this song and gave it their own unique sound with a thirteen voiced chorus containing only Karen and Richard's voice. Included on their 1970 album "Close To You".

Love it. This is one of my favourites. I think this is a upbeat song.

It's not one of my favorites, but, I still love it.
I prefer the fast/short version in the Bacharach Medley on the Tan album. I like the choice of instruments/arrangements in the slow version on the Close To You album.
This one is in between a ' love it and an it's okay..., I still gave it a ' love it. [glow=red,2,300][/glow][shadow=red,left,300] [/shadow][shadow=red,left,300]Roland Chayer[/shadow][shadow=red,left,300] [/shadow]

Like Roland I'm somewhere between a love it and it's okay. so I also gave it a "Love It".
What I love about this song is Karen's somewhat husky vocal performance. She really put some life into it. I also love both the vocal and musical arrangement, especially that multi-vocal effect. What a great work. It's songs like this that put Richard Carpenter on the map as one of the outstanding arrangers of his time.
What I find just okay about the song is the song itself. This is not particularly one of my favorites of Burt Bacharach tunes.

I voted for I Love It because I really do love this song. Karens vocal is so cute and bubbly on this song and the layering of backing vocals on the songs are among the most ambitious efforts by the Carpenters. What the song itself may lack is made up for by the fact that I feel Karen does a great job on the vocals and the arrangement compliments Karens beautiful vocals as always. Most of all this song always lifts my spirits and leaves me with a happy feeling based on how Karen treats this song vocally. There are songs I like better than this one but this song never fails to deliver as far as I am concerned, A really nice song!

Any song that can contain the word pneumonia and not be a turn-off is OK with me. Actually, I find the song very agreeable and another homage by Richard to Burt Bacharach and Hal David. Of Karen's reading of the lyrics takes this OK song into the outer limits. I love listening to this version and the more uptempo one on the tan album. It's all good.

I put it's an Okay song. I agree w/ Rick in that it's mostly the song itself I'm not 2 wild about, but I'm not a big fan either of the Bacharach songs.

The song is between "Love It" and "It's Okay," but I ultimately give it the higher rating for the following reasons:
The buildup of layers of harmonic vocals to a high-fevered pitch.
K cops a tough attitude throughout the song. Appropriate to the feeling of love lost and sour grapes, you can practically hear a sneer in every word K sings.
Humorous lyrics --- not many people would cleverly think of rhyming "pneumonia" with "phone ya" ...
