>:(Just watched an american programme called 101 most shocking moments. Karen was 30 in the countdown. A few actors/ress said a few nice words but what really annoyed me was the fact that Wyona Ryders shop lifting escapade was thought to be more shocking than Karens death....!!!! Shame on who ever did this countdown. I love Jobeth Williams for the nice things she said about Karen & Ellen Bergan who also said every one should sing Karen Carp songs and there would be more happiniess in the world. Ken carps1000

Not to fear Ken ten yeras down the road when they do another installment of most shocking moments Karen Carpenter will (sadly) still be on this list. Wynona Ryder's escapade will by then be forgotten.

ss Good insight Rick. Yes, those countdowns are sometimes really off-beat. I really like W. Ryder too. Maybe she just needed to catch some attention.

When I was living next to Elizabeth Wertzel, author of Prozak Nation and %itch. The first time we met, she was pounding on my front door demanding to know who was listening to the Carpenters, I thought there was a Broward County ordinance I was unaware of, very strange. A few months later she was arestted for shop lifting at Neimun Marcus. If she had stayed home and listened to carpenter records with me none of this would have never happened. From what I understand this type of behavior is an addiction. She certainly had the means to buy what ever she needed. Jim

The weekend version of Entertainment Tonight is reviewing their top 25 stories of the last 25 years. I just happen to flip the channel and found the show. Eating disorders, in general, was story #11. There were old interviews with Susan Dey from the Partridge Family and Tracey Gold from Growing Pains, but it was pointed out that is was Karen's tragic death that brought the disease into the forfront. There were no interviews with anyone about Karen, just some pictures with the voice overs of the hosts. I am always glad to see people remembering Karen fondly and treating her memory with respect.

Here's a question that hopefully someone will know (maybe Cam). Did Karen ever speak publicly about her bout with anorexia?
