Leave it!
I think this was a total waste of time and talent. If it is not the worst song, it is one of them. I haven't listened to it is years.

I like it a little because it's Karen singing..., but, in general, it's a *Leave it* song.
..., I still give it an *It's okay* because it's Karen singing..., you won't get a *Leave it* from me on anything that Karen sings or play the drums on.
I rarely listen to this one though..., practicaly never, I should say. [glow=red,2,300][/glow][shadow=red,left,300] [/shadow][shadow=red,left,300]Roland Chayer[/shadow][shadow=red,left,300] [/shadow]

I also rated this one an "It's Okay". Like Roland I can never rate anything with Karen's voice or drumming a "Leave It". I love Karen far too much to totally dislike anything she has done.
"Breaking Up Is Hard To Do" is not a favorite Carpenters song. But I do like the fun upbeat rhythm and all in all it's really not that bad of a song.

Aw, come on now, guys! This is a great tune. As I've said in other posts - I was never crazy about it when Sedaka did it, but I do just really love Carpenters version of this tune. I like the chord changes, I love the harmonies, and I love the absolute crispness of the guitar/vocals/drums, etc. I just think it's a great toe-tappin tune, and I turn it way up every time it comes on. In fact, sometimes I will rewind to hear it again. I love it! In the minority, I suppose, I am, nonetheless, Tim

I think it's okay. I don't like Sedaka's version. Because it is the Carpenters, so I won't give a 'leave it'

I agree that the song is fun but I wish they had chosen to do the ballad version. Richards opening comea comea downs are just this side of an earache, until Karen comes in to rescue him. I realize that this was a song was there way of appologizing to Neil over the concert tour firing, which shows just shows what great people they were. I think Laughter In The Rain would have been a great song to cover by Neil. Tim I think if this song makes you happy that is all that matters. Jim

Hello to All, I haven't posted or commented on anything in a while but I love this site and thanks to all who keep it going. I read it every day. RE: BUIHTD I have always liked this song especially when it first came out on the, AKOH album. I like the ending the best because it sounds like they were having fun with the song. Like the use of the cow bell.. etc.. Sometimes you could just tell they where having fun. I should know this but its been a while, did Richard arrange the ballard verson of Sedaka's song.. I read this somewhere a long time ago. It would not surprise me if this is true, Richard could arrange any up beat song into a ballard... Thanks to all you great people on this site. Mr. Bill

Hi Mr. Bill...
Richard did the strings arrangement on Neil Sedaka's ballad version of "Breaking Up Is Hard To Do".

Tim, I also love it, moreso than Sedaka's version, but it's a fun upbeat song. The C's would have done terrific also on "Laughter in the Rain"...always liked that one too. ALSO JUST WANT TO SAY: welcome Mr. bill and all others who drop in and share with us.

Me no like Neil Sedaka so ( and Im afraid Im biast ) I cant like someone who did what he did back in 75 to R & K He is totally bannned in my house & apart from Solitaire has never written/performed any thing I would listen/like to..Breaking up is hard to do is a no no. R & K do a very good job with a bad song but then R & K could sing a bout a paper bag & it would sound good. Man Smart Woman Smarter is my all time worst Carps song...I feel a top 10 comin on... Ken

I love it...a catchy little ditty. I remember the first time I heard it...and heard Karen, Richard and band in background laughing and talking at end of the song...very cool. I also love the harmonies...

I Like the song but not the composer...Nil Sickduckda. Good ole Cs for being dignified to ignore his little outbursts when he was replaced on one of their tours. Ken.

Leave it. I don't care for this song at all. I agree totally, though, about "Laughter in the Rain".

I gave it an OK. BUIHTD is not a great song. Neil Sedaka is not a great artist. I was at one of the Carpenter concerts where he opened for them and he would just NOT leave the stage. He hogged it for over an hour! It was disgusting then and it's still disgusting. His ego is too d**n big. It's a shame the whole scene blew up in their faces. Of course they took the high ground and recorded this dumb song to appease Sedaka. That's the difference between class and trash. Ask me how I really feel!
