"Man Smart Woman Smarter" is another one of those Carpenters songs that fans are torn between. It's one of those you either love it or you don't type songs. What do you have to say about it?

I rated this one an "It's Okay". It's not one of my favorites. But back in 77/78 I played it tons of times. Mainly because I love the music. Once again (like "Goofus") the muscianship is outstanding. Though the song itself really is not my cup of tea.

I never liked this song, but the "live version" dueting with Suzanne Somers is really delicious!

I never have liked it and still don't. This one just does nothing for me. I always skip it when I am playing Passage. This for me is a..."what were they thinking?" song. To sum it up...leave it!

I gave an *It's Okay* to this one. I think the musical jam at the end is a little long..., not enough *Karen*..., if you want to put a instrumental jam like this, on a Carpenters record, you should put Karen on the drums..., that would've been great.
I like watching it on the *Space Encounters* TV Special a lot though. [glow=red,2,300][/glow][shadow=red,left,300] [/shadow][shadow=red,left,300]Roland Chayer[/shadow][shadow=red,left,300] [/shadow]

I think it is ok. I seldom listen to it but I think when I listen to it, this song makes me happy.

Being one of the older Carpenter fans dating back to 1970 and experiencing it all from Close To You onward, I'd have to say this is a leave it song for me. I followed Karen and Richrd from the heights to the depths and Woman Smarter is one of the duds. Richard was not at the top of his form on the Passage album. He had just about run out of steam and it showed. Too much touring had sapped them of their energy, creative and otherwise. A nice break would have energized both of them and a reteam down the road would have been the best course. With all of that said, I think the songs on Passage were a refreshing departure for the duo. They always experimented with different sounds and this is a wondeful example of the eclectic tastes that Karen and Richard held.
Bravo for being adventurous in the midst of being pooped.
My thoughts, Rob

My thoughts, Rob I couldn't have summed it up any better, Rob. This one was adventurous, and musically, it's right up to snuff, but.....I can't even put this one in the same league as Goofus - it's never tripped my trigger, and I will usually skip it, given the option. Just don't care for this one. Tim

I must agree with Rob also in that I have always admired the Carpenters for including diversity by means of what we have all coined as experimental tracks but at the same time never failing to include there more signature style ballads on each album. However if you read the liner notes from Passages it states that this album was finished in 3 months! Even before I read that I felt that the album lacked the flow or intention you find on there other albums such as Song For You. Man Smart just seems like an after thought. When you hear it sung with the guests from its TV special it makes sense and is entertaining. Does anyone know if Richard goes into details as to why this album was produced so fast when all of the others were so carefully crafted? When I listen to BWana which I love and Man Smart I get the feeling they recorded them on the same day. Jim

This song for me was always a little out there so to speak. I always felt that karens vocals where a little to high. The musicianship is great but can get on your nerves if your not ready for it.. Sometime I will sit down and listen to it all the way through. I would like to know what richard really liked about this song. At any rate I gave it an ok.
