$&? $&? $&?
When you hear the following lyric what do you think of. does it bring back a memory or remind of someone or event?
"Not a cloud in the sky got the sun in my eye"
I remember a beautiful sunny afternoon in 1974. It was summer and absolutely beautiful. I was walking back home from my friends house and looked up to the blue sky. At that moment the song "Top Of The World" came to my mind. and I thought to myself I am on the top of the world.

hi Rick...I love On Top of the World! I think it's surely one of the most upbeat and happier songs done by the C's. I do know that Lynn Anderson had a hit with it...but of course I love the C's version better. It reminds me mostly of happy songs...those that make me think of a sunny day or taking it easy kind of songs. The 1st one I thought of but I don't know who sang it, is "It's Just My Imagination"...runnin' away with me"......this may be the same song I also thought of where the main title is either>>>"groovin' on a Sunday afternoon" or the word may be "cruisin"... in any case that has the same kind of "feel" to it..no cares for the moment ...just enjoy the sun. Also a Beatles hit but also recorded by J. Denver: "Mother Nature's Son" and "I Can See Clearly Now" by Jimmy Cliff... These kind of "breezy" songs...take me back to my memories on the farm when I would go biking down the road...(never much traffic)...and I would sing such songs..the day would be usually in the summer not long before sun down... I would gaze over the wheat field and see the sun shining through their glades ...they would look golden.. and that's how all that made me feel free, happy, daydreaming whether some guy would really like me...and etc...( I mean the guy may have smiled at me or heavens actually ended up sitting by me at church!..ha!) and so ..sorry I rambled...but anyway...

The lyric from "top Of The World" also makes me think of cool and thrist quenching Aquafina water. Gee, I wonder why?

Do any of you remember the first time you heard TOTW. I have to think on this one. I'm not sure but I think it was on a family road trip in late 1973.

#?? I don't remember the first time I heard TOTW, but one thing I do like about it and that is when they sang that on their tv special, Karen seems so lively and happy singing it and near the end goes to sit with Richard on the piano bench and pushes him over a bit where he has to move unexpectedly. I think that's cute!

??# I was in college - and my girlfriend, at the time, surprised me with the Song For You album. I was in my apartment the first time I heard Top of The World - and smiling from ear to ear. The lady who lived beneath us (we were on the 3rd floor) would take her broomstick handle and beat on her ceiling Kevin or I had our stereo up too loud. I had the stereo up pretty loud with this one, and she banged and banged. I ended up having to finish it through headphones. I just remember, I couldn't turn it off, and missed classes that day. %??

I must retract this statement as I purchased "A Song For You" the album in early 1973 or possibly late 1972. That's when I must have first heard TOTW. But I really do not recall.

I cannot pin point the date I first heard TOTW it was so early in my childhood even before I heard Now and Then and since I heard that when it first came out I must have heard TOTW when it was released as a single. I remember the song being played and its one of my earliest childhood memories so I would guestimate around 1972 or 1973 but I cannot remember a specific date or year I was really young then.

I have asked my NASA contact, Pam, if any of the Carpenters songs have ever been played as "wake-up" songs for the astronauts. You'd think that with over 600 people having been in space surely one of them would've asked for "Top Of The World". Or perhaps there is a day coming when I'll do it myself... "Look To Your Dreams" might be more appropriate, but with a 14 day mission and seven astronauts both could fit in. Interesting thought Dave. TOTW would be a great wakeup song for astronauts. Another good one could be "Calling Occupants..." maybe, maybe not?

%?? 8-)Such a wonderful pic. Dave...! Wow... there have been 600 astronauts gone up in space? Sounds like a lot but it's been many yrs. since the space program(s) were started. You're a natural for the part! Mr. Cool space dude! And Top of the W. sounds like a perfect choice for a space song...

:)My earliest of memory of Top of the world is after I bought Singles 1969 - 1973. I played the entire album both sides over and over. Ofcourse Top of the World was one of my favorite songs. It always made me feel good.
