This thread will either be a lot of fun or a complete and utter dud. We all have our favorite Carpenters songs, but what are our favorite PARTS of these songs? Here are some little things I relish: -- the way Karen sings "with-OUT you" at the end of the chorus in "I Won't Last A Day Without You" -- the way she says "time" in "Close to You" (every tiiime ... you are near/every tiiime ... you walk by) -- "Every Sha-la-la-la ..." Gives me goose bumps, particularly on the second chorus! -- Karen's breaths during "I Can Dream Can't I?" -- "to-geth-uhhhhh" in "We've Only Just Begun." Your turn.

Hi from me. Listen to the rich start off of All you get from love....That deep rich bell like voice "like sailing on a ..." the way she starts to sing the word "Like" Its Karen at her best. & when she sings" You" at anytime ( not the "You " from Kind of hush) but any you...she pulls the syllables along & apparently it used to really annoy Richard when she did this! Dont forget to look at Carpenters News Flash...& Now & Then- My Carpenters Life 1-V & also remembering The carpenters....all in the carps on line section of this site. $V$ One of my favorite parts to a KC solo piece is when she builds up to "flyyyyyyyyyy together across the floor.." from My Body Keeps Changing my mind. Another favorite piece is the repeat "together" on WOJB.

??# ??# ??# In the fantastic song "Love Me For What I Am" I just love the way Karen trills her "r" on certain words such as on the word rearrange - she rolls her "r" and it creates an interesting sound. I also love on the song "All Because Of You" from her solo album how she puts an extra emphasis on the word "bijou". That just gives the song a heightened sense of dramatics. I also like on "All Because Of You" how she sings quite boldly and then at the end of certain phrases she holds the note continuing with an almost whisper-like quality. If you listen closely in headphones you can hear this. It gives the song an almost eerie feeling - which gives that "chill" feeling. This in my mind is one of Karen's finest vocal performances ever.

Hi All, I love in SOLITAIRE how she sings, "There was a man, a LONNNNELLLLYYYY man..." that sounds wonderful. I love also how she pronounces "thru" in..."thru his indifference..." and "until it died within his SILENCE" and love the way silence, she sings it like a piece of crystal. And of course the end..."He's playing SOLITAIRRRRRREEEEEEEE" is spine chilling. Just holding that note and sustaining it while holding a deep note. Just perfection. Pure perfection.

Shalalala this topic is definately not a dud but for me its a difficult question to answer because there is just so many little things Karen does to put her stamp on a song that are so cool to me but here are a few that come to mind:
Both Rainy Days and I Wont Last A Day when Karen hold the last note of the chorus. Its hard for me to explain but On Rany Days she does it when she gets to the Down part of "Rainy Days and Mondays Always Get Me DOWN" and does the same thing on IWLADWY when she gets to the You part as she sings "But I Wont Last A Day Without YOU" just a little signature she puts on these songs that I love.
Another example is off her solo record on the song Still In Love With You where she does the ahuh and oooh and aaahs kind of sexual and adult but so cool.
On the Offering album Whats The Use and Turn Away are songs where Karen plays drums a little harder/louder (at least in some parts of these songs) that make these among my favorite tracks on the record though she does not sing leads on these.
Generally the way Karen harmonises with herself and duets with Richard on alot of their early songs make listening to them a real treat. There are just too many examples to cite here.

Cam I completely agree on that one I love it when Karen does that in Solitaire and it has the same effect on me as well.
These are not my favorite songs though they rank right up there. My favorite songs are more based on Richards arrangements and Karens overall vocal performance than a little thing she or he adds to the song.

For me one of the songs is "Johnny Angel"....when she says the word concentrate like "I'd rather cauncentrate....." and then I like the part where she sings "I'm in heaVEN I get car..ried away.....I dream of him and me (beat beat) and how it's gonna be (beat).

???Yes, there are so many wonderful ways that Karen really puts her signature on... In Solitaire: oh my Cam...I love all you mentioned too...and then that "a little hope , goes up in smoke" the way the music goes up putting a definite picture of a smoke ring going up"
A Song For You: "remember when we were together, we were....aloneandI ...was singing this song for you" ..the way she sings those three words in a low voice and seemingly altogether..
others I'll mention later perhaps...
