I must agree here this song is just brilliant. Talk about unearthing a buried treasure when Richard found this lost song he must have been happy to say the least. Karens voice was so incredible during this time this is one of the best songs not to make an album I ever heard it blows Barry Manillows version out of the water. A great song I love it!

I agree Enigma Carpenters recording of TTGTFA absolutely blows Barry Manilow's out of the water. But then again I'm not a fan of Manilow's. He's just not my cup of tea. As for TTGTFA Karen's voice is outstanding here. Rich, deep, dark, vibrant, bold, and intimate. One of Karen's best readings. It is one of the best songs to not make it on an album. what a great find. Here's the question seeing how strong "Horizon", every song is good enough to be a single. which song on "Horizon" do you think would have been left off to make room for TTGTFA - if it were to have been released on this album? I can't think of a song that I'd leave off. I would have just added the song and made the album longer.

I would have left off PLEASE MR POSTMAN. It's a good song, but all the rest of the other songs all fit very well together...and POSTMAN could have been left off...even though it was a huge hit single worldwide, and went Number One in the USA.

No song could of been left off Horizon. One of the reasons Horizon was NO1 in the Uk for 5 weeks was cos Mr post man was on it & it reacked No2 here. Horizon was to short bearing in mind that Aurora & Eventide were the same songs only with different words which meant the LP only had 9 songs on it in reality. Also Horizon broke the record books for the most advance orders on an album in the UK prior to release here.

First of all I agree that all the songs should be kept and TTGTF just added on but if we HAD to take one of, I would choose "I Can Dream Can't I".
It's funny cause the reason and only reason I chose this one is because on one of my own compilation cd's, I accidentally burned this song twice on the same cd so rather than listen to it again, I usually just skip to the next song. Hence, skip ICDCI.
Gotta run, have a great day everyone!

Actually, I CAN DREAM CAN'T I? is a beautiful song but that could have been left off too, and saved for A KIND OF HUSH sessions. And then kept PLEASE MR POSTMAN on HORIZON. It would have been wonderful for Karen to have just recorded an album of standard-like songs...just herself and a big band backing her.

Funny while I was thinking this question over the two songs that kept coming to mind were Please Mr Postman and I Can Dream Can't I. I figured they could have kept Postman as a single and just included it on greatest hits packages like alot of artists do because it was released the year before Horizon was and I Can Dream is so unique being the only standard on the record it seems out of place. But then I though that was the charm of Horizon it had a little of everything. Since a common criticism of Horizon was it was too short I would include TTGTFA on Horizon to make this amazing record even better if thats possible it certainly would not have hurt to include it.

You know what is neat, is that on ABBA's new remastered cds they included a few extra songs that were done in the same studio sessions as the songs from that album were recorded. It would be cool if RC could do that too...

I also thought of ICDCI as a possible track to be left off, but really this song is classic and beautifully orchestrated. This is one of those songs that again proves the Carpenters were more than just your average easy listening group. Good point about keeping "Postman" as a single and then including it on a later "Singles" collection. Although in my mind"Horizon" isn't complete without "Postman". I think "Postman" is a very important song on "Horizon". The majority of "Horizon" is dark and intense. "Postman" is a nice upbeat happy feeling song. "Horizon" really needs the few upbeat songs it has. So, in this sense of thinking TTGTFA would just have to be an extra song. It would not have hurt if "Horizon" actually had an extra track or two.

This is one of those songs that again proves the Carpenters were more than just your average easy listening group. I agree with you.C's songs often tell us many messages. For example,'Love me for what I am' and 'Bless the beast and the children'They are songs which tell us a lot of things.

I listen to this song for many times recently.I think Karen's voice is quite beautiful in this song. What do you think? I love the C's version of Trying to G. the Feeling again... But, I must admit, it took about 2 or 3 times for me to hear it at first, before I really liked it. This probably is because I had been so used to hearing Manilow's version. When I first heard C's version, it seemed to me that all the orchestra in the background came out too much and seemed to drown out Karen. It's one of my favorites now. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D as far as Horizon, I love all the songs and so I wouldn't leave any out.
