I've received a few emails with votes for the Carpenters Online Awards. I've also received emails stating that a certain song or album should have been nominated. After reading some of these emails I thought it would be interesting to talk about the songs and albums that were not nominated.
There was a committee of six who nominated these songs. This committee will remain anonymous - for the time being. Toward the end one person on the committee was changed.
I was surprised with the "Best Album" nominations. I thought for sure it would end up being "Close To You", "Carpenters", "A Song for You", "Now And Then" and "Horizon". I was surprised that "Passage" received a nomination. It ended up on three diiferent committee members' lists for "Best Album". Same with "Karen Carpenter" this was very unexpected and it received four votes. Out side the five albums nominated the other albums which did not make it were #6 "Carpenters", #7 "Christmas Portrait", #8 "A Kind Of Hush", #9 "Close To You" and #10 "Voice Of The Heart". "Carpenters" came real close to getting nominated - but "Passage" had that one extra vote. "Made In America" surprisingly didn't receive any votes.
The songs that received the most votes, but didn't receive any nominations are as follows:
1. "A Song For You"
2. "Kiss Me The Way You Did Last Night"
3. "All You Get From Love Is A Love Song"
4. "Because We Are In Love"
5. "What Are You Doin' New Year's Eve"
6. "Guess I Just Lost My Head"
7. "Gershwin Medley" (Karen's Live Drum Solo)
8. "Dizzy Fingers"
9. "All I Can Do"
10. "One Love"
"Guess I Just Lost My Head" almost received a vote in "Best Posthumous Song", but was nudged out by "Ordinary Fool". The "Gershwin Medley" Karen's fabulous drum solo came close to a "Best Instrumental" nod, but lost out to "Karen's Theme".
"Voice Of The Heart" was in the nominees for "Best Album Cover right up until the end when I received the last votes. Instead "As Time Goes By" just made it in by only one vote more than "Voice Of The Heart".
In the "Best Single A-side" category "Goodbye To Love" and "Close To You" placed just outside the top five.
Another surprise was that "Close To You" ended up only being nominated in one category. That being "World Prize". The song received votes in several other categories including "Best Single A-side", "Best Arrangement With Voclas", "Best Song" but didn't get enough votes to make the nominations.
... just my thoughts...
