In my mind Please Mr. Postman and Only Yesterday have always been linked together. They were released one right after the other and follow each other on Horizon. Both songs I love but Only Yesterday is my favorite.

Never really thought the two songs went together besides the fact that they are both upbeat songs. OY is my favorite or runner up favorite of all Carpenters songs and PMP is a good song but not a favorite of mine. It is an interesting link that never really occured to me.hmmm &^ *%

@@ I'm not enigma but I'll answer that one. In 1977 carpenters released an edited version of "calling Occupants Of Interplanetary Craft" which clocked in at 3 minutes 59 seconds. The version on "Passage" is 7 minutes and 7 seconds long. Also "Close To You" the single is 3:40 the album version is 4:33

Thanks Enigma. And you are right "Only Yesterday" is one of my favorites. It's also one of my runner-up Carpenters favoprites like you. My other favorite is the darkly soulful "Road Ode". A sidebar conversation pertaining to edited songs. Richard mentioned that they didn't release "I Just Fall In Love Again" as a single because of it's length and he just couldn't find a spot where he could justifiably edit it. I think that's somewhat strange as in 1975 they released "Solitaire" which came in at 4 minutes 10 seconds. that's 40 seconds longer than the average 3 1/2 minute pop single. The song faired well on the charts. Not only that several of Elton John's hits at the time were five minutes and longer. I believe McCartney and Wings had some that were around 5 minutes also. So who's to say.
