5-stars
This is a five star all the way. I love this song. It's most likely my favorite song from "Close To You" or atleast one of my three favorites from this album. What a beautiful song with a magnificently sweeping musical arrangement. Karen's voice just shines on this one. Absolutely fantastic.
I consider this to be one of the many Carpenters missed singles. This one could have easily been a top two hit had it been released anytime between 1970 and 1974. Could have easily become an all-time classic.

5 Stars This is a special song to me. When I first listen to this song after buying 'Close to You'. I think I don't like it. But when I listen to this song for the second time, I realized that this song is very good and it shows Karen's voice is so rich. So I give this song a 5 stars.

A beautiful song and Karen sings slower songs so fine. It did take me a long time, however, when I was young to finally figure out what she was singing in the song. This album did not come with lyrics so I could only sing what I heard....hehehe.

Gave it 5 stars all the way, it's Such a great great song!! I love the way it starts out...just those few "plink plink plinks....of the piano, and to me, it really defines the song. It starts somewhat timidly and then there's the boldness of the voice and instruments...altogether, it paints a very vivid picture of the beach and the waves crashing, and Karen so very well, has a bit of pleading or yearning in her voice...because there are many special moments there for her. Gives me a lump in my throat of emotion thinking about that. Just spendid...."love is a many splendored thing" ...

I gave this one 5 stars. It is strong enough to have been another hit for the Carpenters. I feel like I am at the ocean while the waves are coming to shore and filled with love and longing and all emotions therein. This is a classic Karen performance!

This song has never been a favorite of mine for some reason and I can't imagine it would have done well as a single, even during the Carpenters peak. There is no denying that it is beautifully performed (especially the piano/vocal start) but it's just not edgy enough for me somehow. 3 Stars. L
