There's nothing like a beautiful love song. What are some of your favorites.
Here's a few of mine:
"The Sweetest Thing (I've Ever Known Is Loving You)" by Juice Newton. I remember playing this song from her wonderful album Juice. Every song on that one was excellent "Queen Of Hearts", "Angel Of The Morning", "Ride Em Cowboy", "River Of Love". Juice has a fantastic voice.
"I Love You" by the Climax Blues Band. This was a hit in 1980 (or around that time). remember Climax Blues Band's other hit from 1977 "Couldn't Get It Right". "I Love You" was a great love song. I loved singing to this one in the car.

"One Touch" (Ludvig Andersson) - I just want to know how this lyricist got inside my head -- or my heart. (you can hear this song on a free mp3 download at http://www.ludvigandersson.com)
"La Riviera" (Ludvig Andersson) - great stuff.
"Kisses of Fire" (ABBA)
"To Love" (Agnetha Fältskog)
"Utan dej" (Without You - Agnetha Fältskog)
"When All Is Said And Done" (ABBA)
"The Winner Takes It All" (ABBA) -- Yes, this is the ultimate sad lovesong... I contend that you cannot top this one for sadness...
"I Wasn't The One" (Agnetha Fältskog/Peter Cetera)
I agree that THE WINNER TAKES IT ALL is very good but I equal it with the Carpenters SOLITAIRE. To me, these songs go hand in hand...the best from one of the best...Although I am a bit biased, but I think the Carpenters are just a touch classier than ABBA and I adore ABBA's music...but Karen had something vocally that the ABBA women didn't have...they were too trained in my opinion whereas Karen's voice was just pure crystalline...
I love ABBA THE ALBUM and ABBA VOULEZ VOUS albums...

My thoughts, Cam
Have to agree with Cam on this one. Whereas "The Winner Takes It All" is a beautiful and sad song. "Soltaire" takes it just a step further. "Solitaire" is not just a sad love song, but it's a dark, deep and mournful song. The intensity of this song is unmatchable.
Karen Carpenter by all means has a true gift as a vocalist. The girls from Abba, true, are fine vocalists. But neither even comes close to the purity, the range, the naturalness, the soul, the depth, the intensity of Karen Carpenter. Many critics these days are classifying KC as one of the world's finest vocalists ever - several even say she "is" the world's finest ever - even topping the finesse of Barbra Streisand. And Babs is truly another one of those naturally gifted vocalists same with Julie Andrews, Ella Fitzgerald and Aretha Franklin. That's the crowd Karen's voice belongs with - but Karen just had that little something extra she had a certain silky innocense and purity in her voice which really makes her stand out and above the others.

Well said Rick. Couldn't say it any better. Karen had that special something in her voice, that no other could imitate. When she sang, she was singing, and not copying someone else. She had her OWN style. And she was never singing in a showy way to make herself seem a better singer. Whereas the ABBA women sometimes tried to outsing each other, as there were 2 of them...Karen just sang her own way and that shows thru her music. Also, since there was only one of Karen, she couldn't really try to outsing another Karen...but even when Karen sang with others, she just sang...and didn't do it in a show off way, at least not to my knowledge. She also was able to give mention to those singers she liked and idolized, and that in my opinion showed she was humble. Which makes her even greater in my view. If Karen tried to outsing someone else, and put them down thru jokes or whatever...she would lose her classiness but she never really did that. So she retains her classiness and is a true Lady.
My thoughts, Cam PS. Anni Frida was my FAVE of the Abba women though...
There are so many love songs out there and the one I hold close to my heart is mine and my wife’s song cherish by Kool and the Gang then Against all Odds by Phil Collins
