This is one of two radio interview that Cam83 sent to me via email. Thanks Cameron.
Here is part of interview one done in Britain I believe...in 1978 when Karen was there to do the Bruce Forsythe Show...don't know the radio announcer's name...but he will be A) and Karen will be KC).
KC-Over the last year or even more that that...we've been doing more of chosen thing. We just finished our latest Christmas special (Christmas Portrait tv special) home in LA...it's taken...on and off 14 months for us to finish the Christmas album we just released...
So we immediately called Peter Knight, the, uh...fantastic, brilliant orchestrator...He came over and just did a fantastic job and Billy May who is a very famous arranger in the States...and Richard's had this concept in his mind for a long time.
A-And it's taken 14 months actually?
KC-14 months.
A-Well we're going to hear some of it, of course...
A-Karen you've got ahuge ensemble on this LP. You've got a 48 singer chorus!
KC-Right
A-Is that partly what took so long to get together?
KC-Well...uh...yah! That was a lot of it that was involved. Um...because when we finally got around to doing this as I said, it's been in our heads for a really long time. Uh...He wanted the biggest sound that we could get and having Peter writing, you know, you just kept...you know, he just said right for whatever you want to. And there were times we had the Orch up to 80...80 an over. And there were a couple of times on the album where we had 70 voice choirs. Because Christmas music warrants that.
A-Of course it does.
KC-And it just lasy sos beautifully for the bigger, the better.
A-It's really, really exulting music Karen. You must have been very happy to do it.
KC-Oh it's a pleasure. Oh I could keep doing this right thru next year. In fact we had so many that we wanted to do that we had leave off at least twelve. And we were very upset about that...
