Hi Leo...
Great to have you here on the forum. I love your screen name Prisoner-Walking. I know it's from a Carpenters song, but can't quite get it. Which song is it from? (I also sent this question to you in a Private mail before I read this thread).
You're a relatively new Carpenters fan. It will be interesting to hear your story of how you came to be a fan.

Hey Tim. Thanks for saying hi. A bit about myself....well I'm 26 years old, earn my living as a piano/vocalist and I've been a massive Carpenters fan since '95 when I found my Mum's old tan album in a dusty box. I guess you don't need me to tell you why I'm a fan - of course it's Karen's voice. Because their material was varied, and Karen's voice clearly matured and changed as she got older, I think that the Carpenters have left us a multi-faceted legacy which we can never get bored with - we can find something new in each track depending on our mood. Particular favourites - pre-'76 tracks; "Superstar", "Desperado", "Tryin to Get the Feelin". I can't wait to get into some disussions with you guys! Til then, Cheers. L

In answer to your question Rick, my name "Prisoner Walking" comes from "Desperado" Verse 2 and the lyric "he's a prisoner walking through the world all alone". Cheers. L

L Thanks Leo for answering that question. How funny "Desperado" is one of my ultimate favorite Carpenters tunes. I just love that song. I consider it to be one of Karen's very finest performances. I also believe that if released as a single in 1975 "Desperado" would have been a huge hit. As a matter of fact I feel the song still sounds good enough to be a hit today - it should be used as a theme for a movie - could be #1.

Yes Rick I agree...I am frequently blown away by Karen's reading of "Desperado". Man, that intimate piano/vocal verse, the trademark drawn-out tom fill (right UP in the mix as always!) and then that soaring chorus - amazing stuff. Truly, "Deperado" sums up what Karen means to me - she sounds rich, intimate, and aching, yet within the same song young, feminine, edgy. I'm working myself up into a frenzy now just thinking about it! LOL. L

Hi suzieq272 You can look on EBay - many times they have listings. Look for a guy by the name of Mark.....he has the most comprehensive Carpenters CD/DVD collection that I know of, and he's wonderful to work with. Glad you could join us on the forum. Tim (AKA YesterdayOnceMore) ;D
