Hey, ya'll,
I've been a fan for awhile now... What with older brothers and a sister that were Carpenters' fans, I grew up with them. In 1988, I moved to So. Cal. with my family and was fortunate enough to meet Richard and his wife Mary. I also wrote an article on the duo in a magazine out of Port Townsend, WA called "DISCographies" (at least I think that's what it was called!). Have been out of the Carpenters scene for quite awhile now...

I have the DISCogrphies article. I refer to it regularly. I believe it was written or published in 1992. Great article.

:)welcome pvtbooth4thovi...Wow..it gives me a great feeling to actually hook up in a small way with someone who has actually met the Carpenters or even one of them or been to one of their concerts. How very lucky for you to have had such an opportunity to write an article as you mentioned. Did you enjoy meeting Richard and his wife? lucky you
I'm a west Tx gal and lived several yrs. in Lubbock, Tx. home of Buddy Holly and Mac Davis and others. I'm too young to have ever seen B. Holly and though I always liked M. Davis, never saw him nor our faves..the Carps. It just blows my mind to listen and realize how very very talented our faves were ..and Richard still is. Listening to Karen to me is like some smooth liquid gold no not anything alcoholic....going all over me and calming me. It's like she could sing anything with no effort at all she was so natural. And of course, Richard's talent is so tremendous also and all the hard work he is still putting into their music is great.
welcome again smoothie

Smoothie,
Richard and Mary are great people, very nice and open. Mary even let me inside the home on Lubec Ave. to see Richard's grand piano on one occasion. Also, living in Southern CA was a treat, Carpenter's wise... I got to see Karen's crypt at Forest Lawn, etc. I'm in KY, now...
Nice to meet everyone..

Smoothie2 - I really like the way you described Karen's voice as SMOOTH LIQUID GOLD. That is the best description I have heard of any description of her voice.

Greetings pvtbooth4thovi. I've seen the "DISCographies" publication in the magazine racks before. But I haven't read the issue with your Carpenters story in it. Have you written any other articles on any other musicians? Have you met anybody else?
