;Dwelcome Mariah!...always good to have someone else join our forum...to give new insight and info about the Carps. I grew up with Richard and Karen's music as so many of us did. I was an introvert and not popular in school. I was way too "churchy" perhaps to want to join in with the "in" crowd. I was always playing music..records, or radio, or tv. The C's especially Karen's vocals mostly conveyed loneliness, and a longing for better things. Everyone wants acceptance and it's a very important part of life. Karen's voice sounded so grown-up even when they were just getting started with their music. She really hit a nerve in me ...I could relate to how she was feeling in those songs. So, it was special to me. She was certainly. She helped me connect even more with my serious feelings, but I loved their tv shows too, because they were fun to watch. Since my dad passed away a few mo. ago I have found this same connection even moreso. The C's I listen to all the time. They're in my heart of hearts.... and when I hear "Bless the Beasts and the Children"...I get choked up too because I think of how my dad was much like a child...helpless in his last yrs. And I know though that he's been blessed way beyond in a better world now. oh my... anyway, I don't think anyone in the music world that I know of comes even close to singing or connecting with people more than the Carpenters. smoothie

Coming back home from a very dreary weekend today, ending with a friend of mine talking about killing herself (she is a fellow transsexual), I listened to my Carpenters music, to bring in the peace and love that my spirit needs. But before the long trip from Las Vegas to Laughlin, I popped in my "Gold" CD. This time, in its entirety, not the burned version which I threw in other artists' music, irrelevant to the sound.
Yes, the Cs are always a good way to flush out all the anger and frustration in my life, and from worlds away, I guess Karen could hear our cries.
All my warmest and brightest thoughts to my friend, whom I hope to see again next week.
Their music always has a special sound, and to hear it continuously without the interruption, it will make both happy and sad times feel right.

Mariah, I'm sorry you had such a bad time over the wk. end, but sounds like you may have really helped your friend when you needed to. I'm glad the Carps. music can help you through some tough times.
