Christmas Collection is a two-dsic set which includes both "Christmas Portrait" and "An Old Fashioned Christmas" in their entirety. I especially love "An Old Fashioned Christmas" as it has my favorite Carpenters Christmas tune which is "(There's No Place Like) Home For The Holidays"... a wonderfully bright cheerful, warm and upbeat tune... just perfect for getting you into the mood of the season... that feel good mood. It's funny how different Karen's speaking and singing voices were. She sounded so sophisticated when she sang, but not very eloquent when she spoke. Maybe it's because we didn't get much of a chance to hear her just speak.
Anyway, the Christmas music is the best. After all these years Carpenters are still being awarded gold certifications. Merry Christmas Darling is played each and every year throughout the country and undoubtedly the world. I love every song on both albums.

Hi Rob - right you are. I was watching a clip last night from one of the Christmas Specials, and Karen's Christmas Party at home. She invites many friends and family, and as she's opening the door, letting more people in, that not-so-sophisticated voice comes through loud and clear. I believe a lot of that comes from simple overdoing it...that is, I think perhaps she covered a lot of her "insecurities" through that more comical approach to her speech, and that "little girl-ish" voice. There were other times when she was very well spoken, and serious. I think it was the "funny" Karen that seemed to me to be more child like. Happy Christmas to everyone here at the forum! May your days be merry and bright!!! Tim :

May your days be merry and bright!!! Tim : You know Tim, I believe you're onto something there. Not to brag on myself but I've been told I have a great voice and that it is distinctive, very deep and rich and that I should start using it (I never have). I've always thought I sounded funny to my own ear after hearing myself speak on a cassette recording as a teen; since hearing myself I've always hated the sound of my own voice. I've noticed that when I'm into some intense activity and my mind is racing, my voice sounds more like Alan Alda for example, yet when I'm relaxed that aforementioned funny sounding voice of mine comes back to haunt me, I think I sound more like a cross between Barry White and Rocky Balboa, I think my voice is much too deep. Perhaps it's that when I have nothing to preoccupy my mind I might be "trying too hard" to sound like other people and the result is the opposite of what I want. "Overdoing it" if you will. Maybe Karen is the same way as on another Carpenters discussion site someone had said that Karen did not like the sound of her own voice.
