ITV Celebrates The CarpentersForty years since the release of the Carpenters debut LP, ITV1 will celebrate the sounds and successes of the duo with some of the pop stars of today. The hour-long programme - Celebrating The Carpenters - is broadcast on Wednesday, November 18. Hosted by Amanda Holden and Ronan Keating and made in collaboration with Richard Carpenter, Celebrating the Carpenters, sees the following artists take to the stage to perform their own unique versions of some of the Carpenters best loved songs : Chrissie Hynde performing Superstar. Dionne Warwick performing Close to You. The Feeling performing Solitaire. Beverley Knight performing We’ve Only Just Begun. Noisettes performing Goodbye To Love. Ronan Keating performing I Won’t Last a Day Without You. The Saturdays performing Please, Mr Postman. And, exclusively for the show, Jamie Cullum and Kimberley Walsh will perform a duet of Rainy Days and Mondays. Amanda Holden said: “An evening of Carpenters music is my idea of heaven. I’ve been a fan of theirs for as long as I can remember and to hear some of my favourite current bands perform their greatest hits was amazing.” Ronan Keating added: “The Carpenters are one of the greatest acts in musical history and every time one of their records comes on the radio, it’s a magical experience. Being part of a show that moves the legacy of this great band forward is a great honour.” Now isn't this great news! What do you think of this?

Awesome! I know Chrissie Hynde has been a longtime fan of Karen's. I remember reading that after Karen died, she dedicated a song during her next concert to her and was choked up doing it. I wonder if Richard contacted Dionne or if her psychic network had already envisioned this special beforehand!!?? Cool to see The Noisettes and The Saturdays involved, too.

Chrissie recorded "Superstar" in 1992-93 for the Wayne's World 2 soundtrack. I really didn't care for Chrissie's version of the song... although I am a big fan of hers... just not her recording of "Superstar".

Lovekaren70: Thank you for posting the links. Upon your recommendation I first took a look at Beverly Knight and I agree she did a very good job with the song. I like her voice. Then I watched Dionne Warwick, she was okay, but I wasn't impressed. I did however like The Feeling doing "Solitaire". Vocally they didn't even come close to Karen Carpenter, but it was the music. They did an outstanding job with the song and I really liked the guitar work. Musically it sounded similar to U2 (U2 is one of my all-time favorite bands). I'd say this was my favorite performance of the entire show. I also very much enjoyed Chrissie Hynde's version of "Superstar". I really like her style. Again, doesn't come close to Karen Carpenter, but Chrissie Hynde has a style all her own. I like her tough girl attitude... and she's such a superstar herself. The Saturdays did a good job with Please Mr. Postman, although I generally do not care for group like the Saturdays... but they did a good upbeat happy sounding rendition of the song. Jamie Callum and Kimberly Walsh did a lukewarm rendition of "Rainy Days And Mondays".
