The recent Japanese release 40/40 Best Selection was released here in the U.S. on Tuesday October 20, 2009 The disc is currently ranked at #539 on Amazon.com's chart. The title is simply "40/40", they dropped the "Best Selection" part for the U.S. release. It still contains that fantastic photo from the 1975 "Horizon" photo sessions. Here is the link to the disc: U.S. Edition CLICK HERE to see "40/40 "

I believe a similar release was made here in Europe yesterday (Oct 21st) - I listened to this collection on the Spotify streaming service, sounded great that way too! Btw. On that same site is a strange version of "Horizon", it's called "Pop Masters: Aurora", with different order of songs. We Palma Pascale fans are happy however for the fact that "Love Me For What I Am" is track number one!!

At this moment 40/40 is at #670 on Amazon.com. It looks like it most likely will not a be best seller. But in the past ten years there has been a non-stop stream of Carpenters compilations released through the world. Universal needs to release something with at least one new previously unreleased song with Karen's lead vocal... one song alone like that would bring in easily 150,000 additional sales in the U.S. as every die-hard fan would purchase it. I know I would. I'd pay $40.00 for a collection that has just one new song on it. I noticed all the studio albums and the posthumus albums are being rereleased in Japan on SHM-CD format. They are each going for approximately $52.00 - a very high price to pay. I am considering purchasing "Horizon" on SHM-CD just because I love the album so much and would love to hear these perfectly crafted songs in this new format.

Has there been any marketing in the US regarding the release? I haven't seen anything. I know with Love Songs, Carpenters sing Carpenter, etc....there were ads about the releases. Was it just rushed out here after the Japan release?

Has there been any marketing in the US regarding the release? I haven't seen anything. I know with Love Songs, Carpenters sing Carpenter, etc....there were ads about the releases. Was it just rushed out here after the Japan release? I've seen advertisements for the compilation on Facebook, but that's about it. I haven't seen any television ads for it. This morning it is at #632 on Amazon.com. I think this collection has a few major things riding against it. First it's a double disc so it costs a bit more than what people want to pay right now in our tough economical times. Second it was already released in Japan and a good portion of their American die-hard fans have already purchased it, which affects sales drastically. Third in the past ten years there has been a non-stop stream of compilation releases. Most of us have already purchased and repurchased the bulk of these songs three or four times in the past few years. There's no real incentive for us to go purchase them again - even for the casual fan who already has most of these songs on other compilations. Universal could do a major advertising campaign, but I don't think it would spur many sales, not this time around. They need to wait about two or three years and than release a nice compilation with a few previously unreleased tracks and may a few dance mixes... there are a few pretty good remixes of Carpenters songs out there such as "Only Yesterday" which would make a nice bonus track. They need to do something to give us incentive to spend our money.

Oh I agree, Rick. As we've discussed before, many of us have multiple copies of these songs on the various compliations. While, I'd love to see them chart higher...as they've done with some of the previous compilations, I can't justify spending money over and over for the same things.
