What a major shocker. I heard the news today at around 3:00 p.m. and I just could not believe it. I had already been saddened by Farrah Fawcett's death (which I will touch on in another thread) but Michael Jackson just floored me. I was just as shocked over Jackson's death as I was when John Lennon and Karen Carpenter died. I always liked Michael Jackson's music from the earliest Jackson Five to the Jackson's and then to his solo work. "Off The Wall" and "Thriller" are amongst my all-time favorite albums. In honor of Michael Jackson I wish to list some of his songs which I truly have loved throughout the years. I Want You Back ABC The Love You save I'll Be There Never Can Say Goodbye Dancing Machine Got To Be There Rockin' Robin Ben Enjoy Yourself Shake Your Body Down To The Ground Don't Stop Til You Get Enough Workin' Day and Night Rock With You Off The Wall She's Out Of My Life Burn This Disco Down Lovely One Can You Feel It Walk Right Now Billie Jean Beat It Wanna Be Startin' Something Human Nature PYT Thriller State Of Shock Torture We Are The World I Just Can't Stop Loving You Bad The Way You Make Me Feel The Man In The Mirror Smooth Criminal Black Or White Remember The Time You're Not Alone Butterflies My prayers go out to Michael Jackson's family and friends in this time of sorrow.

This was absolutely shocking - and still I can't believe it. I was sitting together with a couple of friends and we were watching TV when we heard about the rumours of MJ's dead in the news. It was late night over here, but nevertheless we tried to call all of our friends and tell them to switch on the TV. The first 30 minutes after those news the telephone network broke down, so we couldn't reach anybody. We stayed up almost all night, sat there and just couldn't believe it.. MJ was and will be THE superstar for my generation (not only mine) and I'm not sure if I will see anybody overcome his status. When, after his death, radio and TV stations played Michaels songs 24/7 with almost every song I said "Now that's my absolute favourite song!!" but actually there are just too many to pick just one song. I'm very sad that we lost him, the King of Pop!

Now, that it has been near 2 months since MJ's passing I still think about all that he accomplished for the world. On the day that I heard of his passing I began listening to his first "adult" solo album "Off The Wall". As much as I love "Thriller", it's "Off The Wall" that is my favorite by him. I love every song especially "Don't Stop Til You Get Enough" and "Working Day and Night". This album also contains "She's Out Of My Life" a song written by Thomas Bahler in honor of his feelings for Karen Carpenter. Many people who were associated with Karen Carpenter worked on Jackson's "Off The Wal" album including Quincy Jones, Rod Temperton, Louis Johnson, Greg Phillinganes and others (the same musicians also worked on Jackson's "Thriller" album). These connection lead me to believe that Karen and Michael may have possibly worked together in the 80's or 90's had Karen lived longer. A few days later I purchased the Jacksons' CD "Triumph" which was released one year after "Off The Wall". Every song on this collection is outstanding and Michael sings lead on most of the songs. I especially enjoy "Can You Feel It", "Walk Right Now", "Lovely One" and "This Place Hotel". Between "Off The Wall" and "Triumph" I was listening to MJ everyday for about 3 weeks. Mj accomplished much in his life from a young age. I was always inspired by him for his ability to cross barriers of race and culture. He was the first black person to have a video played on MTV, this opened the gates for more black people to receive better exposure for their music. I have only respect for Jackson for being able to open this door for an entire culture of people.
