To be released on October 14, 2008... A new Carpenters DVD release called "Behind The Music: The Ultimate Critical Review". (This is not the VH1 series which aired about ten years ago). This is part of a series released by a studio named Classic Rock Legends. They are also releasing titles for Bon Jiovi, Deep Purple, Bob Dylan, Pink Floyd, Stevie Wonder, Bruce Springsteen, Beatles, Eagles, Aerosmith, Green Day, Johnny Cash, Eric Clapton, Metallica, Bob Marley, The Clash and many other classic artists along this line. There isn't much information yet on this release. All we know so far is that it runs 60 minutes and includes a 72 page book with in depth biography of the Carpenters. Click Here to see Carpenters: Behind The Music Another fairly new release is a CD called "Transmissions". This was released in March 2008. It is a CD release of their Live In Japan concerts. I would have liked to see a better picture on the cover... maybe one from 1974 which is when the concert happened. Other than that this is a fine CD for those that don't already have the Japanese released "Live In Japan" double CD set. Click Here to see Carpenters: Transmissions

Well.....isn't this interesting? Thanks so much for the great information, Rick. The subtitle reads "The Ultimate Critical Review." I found humor in this, as if to say that Carpenters didn't go through quite enough scrutiny during their heydays.....someone felt they must do the ULTIMATE critical review. Just found humor in such irony. And....I'm curious to know if Richard has okayed the information in this book - perhaps helped with information, or is completely opposed to it. I'd ask, but he's not answering. Does anyone know?

I will judge this release when I get a chance to see it I always take so called critical reviews of Carpenters with a grain of salt if its acurate and unbiased it would be an exception to the rule at least thats what I have found. I would also find it hard to believe that Richard would not have control over the content of any Carpenters release so accuracy or new info would be unlikely to be revealed in this Carpenters DVD release. Thats the E story...

I mean, geezzzzzz - of all the things the Carpenters went through, critical seemed to be the buzz word, during the day. I do not think, however, that this critical review will actually be critical in the negative sense of the word; quite the opposite - I believe it will undoubtedly be rather very carefully done. I suppose I just have a twisted sense of humor. Thanks for letting us know, too, that this was an "official" release, because I would tend to agree that whatever bits of information it contains were either provided by, or certainly passed by Richard. I'm interested to know the contents, that's for sure.

I definitely think it was something done by Richard as the title alone simply sounds like a title he would have given it.
I too, think that the word "critical" is not going to mean something negative or bad, rather that I think it would be something Richard would use to take certain songs and fully explain them, with himself critiquing them and filling us in on more of what a song may have held. More than we know already, perhaps, from past albums, etc.
I wish I knew more about what the book/dvd has on it. Bio? songs? interview? mmmmm

The title "Behind The Music: The Ultimate Critical Review" is not a title that Richard Carpenter came up with. That title is part of a series developed by the Classic Rock Legends studio. Classic Rock Legends is the company which is releasing this DVD/Book. They are also releasing about 50 or more similar titles on the same day. The other titles Classic Rock Legends is releasing include artists such as; Bon Jovi, Deep Purple, Bob Dylan, Pink Floyd, Stevie Wonder, Bruce Springsteen, Beatles, Eagles, Aerosmith, Green Day, Johnny Cash, Eric Clapton, Metallica, Bob Marley, The Clash and many other classic artists along this line. Although, the book and DVD will most likely offer us very little new material I will still be purchasing it upon release... along with the Pink Floyd, Stevie Wonder, The Clash and Beatles issues.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! In recent days, in browsing, I saw these latest Carps. ventures coming out soon, or I think Transmissions has already come out, and was equally pleasantly surprised and look forward to knowing more about it. Tim, I understand your view as far as it being the ultimate critical review, and had not thought of it along those lines. And I don't think it strange to think of it that way. Our "dynamic duo" sure went through a lot of negative stuff with their music ( I suppose still do by some), but number of records put out then and now puts them clearly in mostly a positive light. Thankfully. Will be interesting for sure! (((((((())))))))(((((((())))) rkrkrkrkrkrkrkrkrkrkrk Thank you Rick for all the info. Hey, I dig this young pic. of you!
