Is this artist Phoebe Snow? Album Title Never Letting Go....? As for the connection - this one is a stretch, guaranteed, however, the background vocalists credited for this album are Lani Groves, Patti Austin, Gwen Guthrie who were also credited with background vocals on Billy's Joel's incredible album "The Stranger" (Phoebe Snow is credited with background vocals on The Stranger, as well). The Stranger was produced by Phil Ramone, and includes band members Liberty DeVitto and Doug Stegmeyer. Doug and Lib also played on Karen's solo CD "Karen Carpenter" which was also produced by Phil Ramone. Tim

Very good Tim...
You got two out of three.
Yes, the artist is Phoebe Snow (just love her) and the album is "Never Letting Go". In an indirect way, though, your connection is a connection - but not the correct connection. There is a direct Carpenters/Karen/Richard connection to this album.

Steve Gadd played drums and Michael Brecker played saxophone for Karen's solo album, Carpenters' "Lovelines" album and Phoebe Snow's "Never Letting Go" album.

Steve Gadd played drums and Michael Brecker played saxophone for Karen's solo album, Carpenters' "Lovelines" album and Phoebe Snow's "Never Letting Go" album. Hi Dreams... that's part of the connection... there's more and one of the connections is a major connection.
So far what we have is Steve Gadd (drums) and Michael Breacker (tenor sax) performing both on Phoebe's "Never Letting Go" and Karen's solo album.
***Sidenote... Steve Gadd and Michael Brecker do appear on the "Lovelines" album - though, the songs they perform on (which show up on "Lovelines") were actually recorded for Karen's solo album. Just a stickler for accuracy...

Another connection is that both Bob James and Richard Tee played keyboards on these albums. Gwen Guthrie, one of the backup vocalists for Phoebe Snow, sang her own jazz-funk version of "Close to You" that got some airplay here.

Bob James and Richard Tee both showed up on Karen's solo and Phoebe's "Never Letting Go"... alas there is still more. Nobody has yet got the big connection.
Gwen Guthrie is a nice bonus connection.
So far what we have is Steve Gadd (drums), Michael Brecker (tenor sax), Bob James (keyboards) and Richard Tee (keyboards) performing on both Phoebe's "Never Letting Go" and Karen's solo album.

Phil Ramone produced both Karen's solo album and Phoebe Snow's "Never Letting Go" album. That's the big one Phil Ramone.
The last few connections which were not mentioned are: Ralph MacDonald (percussion), Jim Boyer (engineer) on both KC solo and Phoebe's "Never Letting Go".
In Phoebe's album she lists Jerry Weintraub in her "thank you" section - which leads me to believe he was her manager (as well as K&R's).
Here are the other connections listed earlier in this game:
Steve Gadd (drums), Michael Brecker (tenor sax), Bob James (keyboards) and Richard Tee (keyboards) performing on both Phoebe's "Never Letting Go" and Karen's solo album.
Bonus connection: Gwen Guthrie, one of the backup vocalists for Phoebe Snow, sang her own jazz-funk version of "Close to You" that got some airplay here.
Another bonus connection: Phoebe and Karen became friends in the late 70's. Phoebe admired Karen's thin physique.

There were actually a great deal of connections here to Phil Ramone. I thought I'd mentioned that Phil produced Phoebe's album too, but I find I only mentioned that he produced Billy and Karen's. Interesting, as Phil seemed to have produced many wonderful artists. He just seemed to have that right "feel" and the artists had a great deal of respect for him....each artist was unique, and they all had a certain wonderful quality about them. An interesting TL, Rick. Thanks. Tim
