:-/Horizon is a great album. The songs were all so great. But then again what Carpenter's Album wasn't great??
Good comment there Dw. You are so right all the Carpenters albums were excellent. They were all filled with quality music and great vocals. Including Karen's solo.
"Horizon" stands in a class of it's own. This is easily the Carpenters' most intense work of art. Every song fits together wonderfuly. The songs are modern yet echo music styles from previous eras. Karen's voice is rich, dark, bold, intense, powerful, sweet and tender. With "Horizon" Richard took his crisp clean arrangements to the next level. He carefully crafted each song to perfection. And these songs are full of many intricacies and wonderful blendings of melodies and harmonies. Truly a beautiful work.
The album is dark and the majority of the songs are slow, deep and introspective. But at the same point it moves along wonderfully and keeps you interested the entire way through. With this album you really don't want to skip any tracks - as each song is a classic masterpiece. In my mind some of Karen's very best vocal work is featured on "Horizon". I would have to say her best vocals on this album are easily "Desperado", "Solitaire" and "Love Me For What I Am". That is not to take away from the other songs, as Karen's vocals on every one of these songs is outstanding and otherworldly. Karen was a truly blessed and gifted singer.

The carpenters were supposed to have a concert in the philippines but it was cancelled. they seemed to have a car accident in LA. Horizon is one of two favorite albums of mine - the other being Carpenters which contains"sometimes." i played these 2 albums over and over on the day i heard on the radio that karen died...the first and last songs (aurora and eventide) serve as thematically musical bookends to the album... "i can dream, can't i?" is my personal favorite. i never get tired of it... of Richard's latest albums, my personal favorite is Time...
