5 Stars and Brilliant all the way. I can only imagine what touring must be like. This song gives me a very emotional idea of the toll it must take. The music, lyrics, and arrangement are wonderful. It's a gem!

ONE OF MY VERY VERY FAVORITES...even though it turned out to be not as wonderful as other hit songs. I gave it 5 stars... as usual, Karen sings it from the heart... I like the part where she sings.."I wonder if these feelings ever change...how long I'll lift this load.." Though that's sad....The flute also is a major factor which just adds to its appeal.

Five Stars
Astonishing!
Chill Factor!

This is my favorite song from this album. It is a deep, rich and dark song. Karen sings this song from the heart. She's singing from experience here. I love the story the songs tells of a "rock star" on the road.
This is also one of my top five favorite of all Carpenters songs. I especially like the fact that the song was written by Gary Sims and Danny Woodhams - both longtime members of the Carpenters band.

5 Stars and if possible 5 more stars thereafter I love this track, its one of my favourites on the album although as I love the album itself, its difficult to choose a favourite here
The lyrics seem to speak in a different way everytime I hear this song and its one of those songs that can be manipulated to fit and mood and any line of thinking. I especially like songs that speak to me in different ways over the years as this track has

Road Ode: what a truly outstanding record. An intricately woven arrangement by Richard, and a strikingly emotive performance by Karen, once again.
These earlier arrangements had that extra sparkle - that jazzier, edgier sound. The piano, bass and drum riff which leads us back into the final verse after the flute solo, is a neat touch. I often listen to those few bars over and over again.
And from Karen - what a perfectly portrayed insight into life on the road. Her ability to inject songs like this with raw emotion in such an unpretentious manner: a one-in-a-million god-given talent. That's the beauty in her voice: on the surface - warm, understated and occasionally soaring; and yet, just underneath the surface - a wise soul laid bear for all the world to see.
Love this song with a passion. Can I give it 6 Stars please Rick? L

This song haunts my heart every time I hear it. This is "the" story of every performer whose life exists around catching planes, packing/unpacking suitcases and going home alone after a night of feeling loved by the hundreds who paid to see you. Listening to Karen sing "Rode Ode" is bittersweet. She lived and breathed these words, and whether or not we knew it at the time, she sacrificed so many aspects of her young life, to bring this song to us! Please correct me, but I believe it's the only song the Carpenters recorded that was written by band-mates Gary Sims and Danny Woodhams. All the best, magiclamp

What can you say about a song that must have been felt bone-deep by the Carpenters & their band. Brilliant! Karen leads us into an aspect of their world we might not have otherwise thought of, but still one that very much influences their own behaviour/outlook on touring and the world in general.
