Another qwik short song sung by R. And another step from the normal Cs "love song" style which made their LPs always so much different from the other artist. Ken

Gave this only 2 stars even though i do like since Richard gets a chance to sing...even though he's better sticking with harmony and mastering the piano.

I guess I like it okay. The words are great because it's Richard to a "T", but putting music to the words doesn't do much for me.

Two Stars
Musically the song is excellent. Though, I really don't care for it at all. To me it sounds somewhat silly. I've always felt that without this song "A Song For You" would have been a near perfect album, on the level of "Horizon".

3 stars. I don't like Richard's performance of this song. But it is good that Richard had a chance to sing.

A fun song with Richard singing lead. Sounds autobiographic, but I don't think he wrote it. A nice filler song, but nothing more.

I have always wondered, and maybe someone can help me out here...you know on the line "people always stop to ask me, how I got to play so fine...." (think that's the first line)? Well, during the piano 'ditty' that immediately follows it, is that a deliberate mistake by Rich? Is it him being ironic? I guess he's so much of a perfectionist, it must be. It just always sounded a little odd to me.
One of the better Richard vocals, but give this one two stars for being a bit dull. Sorry. L

I remember the first time I heard "Piano Picker". 1972, I was 12 years old and stood on line at JJ Newberry music store waiting for the Carpenters latest album release. "A Song For You". Red heart on the cover, the unusual gate-fold cover design, and LOTS of new gems from Karen and Richard. Randy Edelman, who penned this tune, so beautifully articulates the mindset of the piano/music-driven youth who has little interest for anything outside of playing his piano. Talk about great casting, - Richard really must've related to this one. I could feel the sincerity in his vocal, despite the song's playful nature. It really is "his story"! As a kid, I felt I was listening in to a private conversation, which takes the listener into the life of a star in the making! It's light. It's fun. It's a great track! Sincerely, magiclamp
