2 stars. I don't quite like this song. I think it is a little bit boring.

Four Stars
I love this song. I love Karen's voice. I love the musicianship. I love the easy going Southern California feel of this song.
I've always liked the lyric: "But like the young trees in the wintertime. I'll learn how to bend."

I too like this song as it has a real easy, carefree kind of sound to it that makes me feel "light".....like Rick was saying. Is Southern California really that easy going, like the song, Rick? 8)
I love the flute in this song....is it a flute? Clarinet? It's not an absolute favourite song, but I always love listening to it. I give it 4 stars.

5 stars on this one....it's light and upbeat...I guess along with the superb flute part...(or clarinet or etc.) i just love the way the song starts out...it's a signature sound...the piano part and Karen sings out... although it seems to remind me also of how Karen really must have felt herself as being physically out of shape and so she exercises...but overall the song doesn't have any dark spots in it.

Yeah for the most part it still is easy going here. But not like it was in the 60's and 70's. That was the era of the so called "Easy Going Southern California Sound". Groups like the Eagles and Carpenters made the sound popular. America also had that same sound.

I have to downgrade a little here and give it a 4 star rating. Carole King is good and I like her music but could be better with this one.

5 Stars One of my favourite tracks from "A Song 4 U" This song has a haunting melody and speaks of rebuilding relationships focusing on an element of change so enchanting like the young trees in the winter time.
The lyrics teach of learning from past mistakes and looking toward a bright and prosperous future ..........."one more round for experience and I'm on the road again"...............
A perfect song to start the New Year with

3 stars
This is another one that is just alright, to me. A Carol King tune with great lyrics, but only a so-so arrangement. The flute solo is quite impressive, but it doesn't really sound like a pop song. Looking back, very surprised this one was a hit.

I have an extra-special fondness for this track because it was the first Carpenters song I ever heard...the first time I'd heard THAT voice. It sounded a little dated even back in that summer of '95, but what fasinated me (other than Karen's chrystal-clear vocal) was the soft intricacy of the arrangement; I'd never heard drum fills played that delicately before, or such a unashamedly bright jazz flute solo in an easy-pop track.
5 Stars, mainly for sentimental reasons. L

Love the song and think it's a great track for the Carpenters to have covered. Instead of the vocalist wallowing in sorrow over a dead-end relationship, she talks of changing herself, - starting over, trying to be a better person, and letting time do it's thing. I always thought this song was way ahead of itself, lyrically speaking, and I love the message it sends, which Karen sings so warmly. Just beautiful. I love it. All the best, magiclamp
