Four Stars
I love the big bossa nova sound of this song. It's very unassuming at the beginning but works into a glorious sound as the instruments all chime together. My favorite part of the song is that unidentified sound that comes in while Karen is singing the verses.
As always Karen's vocal performance is impeccable. She really puts herself into it. Every song she sang during this time period became a classic. Karen was certainly at the zenith of her career.

3 star song....I really like it though not one of my favorites...I do like the way Karen starts out slowly and softly with the lyrics and then it all comes together in wonderful harmony.

Hi Kathy
Bossa Nova is of Brazilian origin. it has complex harmonies and jazzlike passages. "Hurting Each Other" is really not a bossa nova song - but has slight hints of the style.

thank you.... Hi Smoothie2/Kathy, If you need a specific example, you probably are already familiar with Antonio Carlos Jobim's "The Girl from Ipanema" as sung by Astrud Gilberto --- that's a prime specimen of bossa nova music!

4 Stars Its not often that Karen performs her higher notes which are clearly presented here on this track with flawless charisma
The lyrics are slightly disturbing as they seem to speak of a relationship that cannot be saved despite the elements although my favourite line has to be....."closer dear are we than the simple letters A & B are".....

3 stars I like this song, but it has never been a favorite. I have never truly understood the lyric. This may sound naive, but why would you hurt the one you love? ...without ever knowing why? Karen's voice is terrific, as usual, and the background vocals are quite impressive, as is Richard's arrangement. This one just never did it for me.

I'm very fond of this instantly likeable hit. Yet another emotive reading from Karen, who by this time couldn't put a foot wrong in that vocal booth. Didn't like Rich 90's remix of this track though (like "Road Ode" and "Let Me Be The One" remixes, the piano re-record was too bright).
4 stars. L

I just love the way Karen's vocal sneaks in, opening the song. The background vocals are lush in a subtle way, all those "we are"s -- airy and sweet. You can almost feel the tom-toms and wood-block. Richard is brilliant. "A Song For You" is just flawless.[despite my comments regarding "Top Of The World",] LOL! Warmest regards, magiclamp
