An incredible Song!!!! One of my very faves...5 stars all the way... I love everything about it..the start and finishing echo is very unique and really gets your attention... Karen gives a heart warming and bold performance of it. The sax is especially appealing the way it scales from low to high ...it's wonderful! I first heard this album and this song back in my teen yrs. while visiting my best friend who had the vinyl album and she was really excited about the whole thing as I was...

Five Stars
This song is so excellent that mere words just aren't enough to describe it. But I will try.
Starting off with the chillingly perfect musicianship. you just can't get any better in the world of music. The red hot sax solo, Richard's keyboard work all the components of the musicianship come together to make an absolutely intense and thrilling song. The lyric itself is also outstanding. Leon Russell wrote this song and once again he has written another classic of classics.
But beyond the fine musicianship and crafty lyrics is Karen's vocal. Karen Carpenter poured every ounce of her heart and soul into this song. She utilizes the entire scope of her voice reaching deep into that basement voice (the lower deep dark portion of her voice) and then going into her beautiful crystalline higher register. Karen lives this song as she sings it and makes the listener feel as if they are right there with her experiencing every heartwrenching moment of the song.

Absolutely a beautiful 5 star song, with an exceptional performance by Karen. This is a difficult song to sing, and especially with the sparse accompaniment that she has in the beginning. But, Karen is right on, and sings this song as if it were her life story, which, of course, at the time, it certainly was. I think that's why I always loved this song. I know Karen had to relate to it in every way - the haunting melody, and those lyrics - she was out singing a song for each "you" in the audience, and she pulled it off in spectacular fashion. I know she sang her song for "me" many, many times. Just for me! This song is probably next in line for me just after This Masquerade. A Song For You is classic musician on the road singing her heart out and longing....longing for.....the right person to love. Wow. I get chills just thinking about how beautifully she delivers this masterpiece. Tim

I gave it 2 stars...never one of my favorites. A nice listen. I prefer the shortened version of A SONG FOR YOU-Reprise.

I must confess it didn't like me at first and it was my less favorite in the album. But later, throught the years, I discovered a gemm on it. Five stars.

5 Star Rating By far the best track on the album. Like a love story written outside of time itself as if the composer saw the destiny of the lyrics written in the stars ......"in a place where theres no space or time".............
A very romantic and chilling song and a personal favourite

5 stars
A wonderful song, a stripped down arrangement, haunting lyrics, and Karen's spectacular voice. This is a classic!

...Justifiably glowing praise of this stunning record. I particularly love Karen's extra-husky 'basement' voice (wasn't she recovering from a larynx infection at the time?) and some of her lowest recorded notes.
Without a doubt 5 Stars. L
