First album I ever got; I love the song RD&M. Although it wasn't my favorite album, it was surely enough to make me fall in love with the Carpenters and buy more, more, more.

5 stars. This is my favourite track on this album. Karen's voice is so rich. This is a sad song. When Karen sang it, Karen told us that she was also very sad. Karen sang it with emotions.

I gave Rainy Days and Mondays Five Stars because it is one of the supreme classic Carpenter songs. Karen's voice is so rich with emotion. I remember when it first came out in 1971 and what a powerful reaction it received from the listeners on the radio and the record buying public. This was a HUGE song in every way; artistically, commercially etc. Starting with Close To You, continuing with We've Only Just Begun and For All We Know, Rainy Days and Mondays just shot the Carpenters even higher into the outer stratoshere of stardom. The music, lyrics, arrangement and of course vocals for this song are simply the best. This will always be a favorite of the fans and of me especially.

5 Stars....I totally agree ..well stated by all so far...First song that I vividly recall hearing on the radio in my pre-teen yrs....I've said it before and once again..Karen struck me where I was in life, her emotional outpour struck my heart. The song told me that she understood...I was a child in most ways then but emotionally I think I was a little more grown up than my peers, and hearing R. Days did also make me want to see and hear and get more of the C's.

5-stars
This is one of the Carpenters' most outstanding songs. I just love it. and eventhough I've played it tons of times I still play it on a fairly regular basis. This is one of those songs I can never get tired of.
Karen deep dark soulful vocal and the steamy sax parts really make this song excellent. This is a classic amongst classics.

Magestic song. With such feeling. Just a darker song but well sung by Karen laying on her back on floor of recording studio...to give it more of an intimate feel. Well done.

5 stars This one is usually at or near the top of my list of favorite Carpenters' songs. Introspection was one of Karen's gifts that she was able to convey in song. Never does Karen capture that mood like she does in this song. 25 years later, this song is as effective as ever. Pure magic!

This is the song that hooked me for life! For me, no other Carpenters recording quite matches the perfection of "Rainy Days".
Karen once said in an interview that every time she sang "Rainy Days" it was like she went into "a whole different world", and how evident that is from her stunning vocal. The pitch, the melody, the sentiment of the song: all perfect for Karen's extraordinarily expressive vocal. And all complimented brilliantly by Rich's arrangement. That heartbreaking harmonica melody; just enough subtle drum work to drive the rythmn....(I love the conga/tom fill which leads into the amazing sax solo - Karen singing "daaaaahwn" in her full chest tone!); the way the whole song changes key and builds to that rousing final "always get me...." - it leaves you feeling like you can leave the table full and satisfied!
I love Karen's trademark subtle husky vocal "scratch" which so many modern vocalists emulate today - (first evident on "wind-up-a-here", and then on the final "down") - you can well see why so many people describe Karen as "the girl with tears in her voice".
I adore this song with a passion! I could go on but I'll probably get banned from the forum! 5 Stars! L
