2-stars
I like this song itself. This is one of those rare occasions where I like the original better than Carpenters recording. I like the echoey effect on the vocals but I just do not care for Richard's lead vocal on this song. I much more prefer the version with Karen singing lead vocal from the "Your Navy Presents" radio program.

I agree with you too, Ken. I like the Carpenters version better but it was still not enough to catch my interest.

The C's put a totally different spin onto the original hit by the Youngbloods, fronted by Jesse Colin Young. Both R and JCY have their idiosyncratic ways of enunciating when they sing.
The ethereal echo effects greatly enhance R's voice, which is not really one of his strongest points. The hallucinatory reverberations are appropriate to the spirit of this period piece, haunting reminders of how we should be treating each other.
Four stars!

I don't know whether you guys have ever noticed; Kurt Cobain's opening dialogue of Track 7 on Nirvana's "Nevermind" album....it's the chorus lyrics for "Get Together"! Check it out - it sounds totally wild! Rich's vocal + effects don't do it for me on this track, although I like the song itself and I love Karen's backing vocals, in particular on the first chorus (when they sound more intimate). 3 stars.
