I like this song itself. This is one of those rare occasions where I like the original better than Carpenters recording. I like the echoey effect on the vocals but I just do not care for Richard's lead vocal on this song. I much more prefer the version with Karen singing lead vocal from the "Your Navy Presents" radio program.

The C's put a totally different spin onto the original hit by the Youngbloods, fronted by Jesse Colin Young. Both R and JCY have their idiosyncratic ways of enunciating when they sing.
The ethereal echo effects greatly enhance R's voice, which is not really one of his strongest points. The hallucinatory reverberations are appropriate to the spirit of this period piece, haunting reminders of how we should be treating each other.

I don't know whether you guys have ever noticed; Kurt Cobain's opening dialogue of Track 7 on Nirvana's "Nevermind" album....it's the chorus lyrics for "Get Together"! Check it out - it sounds totally wild! Rich's vocal + effects don't do it for me on this track, although I like the song itself and I love Karen's backing vocals, in particular on the first chorus (when they sound more intimate). 3 stars. I gotta give this one three stars. I like the song. I like the backing vocals - I just don't care much for the way Rich sings this one. His voice is fine, but it doesn't inspire me in any way to want to listen repeatedly. I agree with Leo that Karen's backing vocals are great. One thing that turns me off about this song, I think, is that it was used in the "interview" and I didn't care for how structured that was - it was SO SCRIPTED, that it took away a bit from the songs that were used in it.
