Rick, was Donna Summer really a guest on your site? Or is this part of Basement Party lore?? Dave, fascinating story about the dreams.Roland, the cat who saw me naked wasn't laughing...I believe he was PURRING! (Sorry I called MITAINE a "she." HE would not be pleased it kitty heaven.)Enigma, I understand your explanation. Some things are beyond words. I wish Donna Summer was a real guest for the Basement Party. She was what you'd call a virtual guest. Not really here - but through the wonders of HTML parts of her were here. But it's great to actually have you here in person Palma.

No fans, copey is not my manager, but he is a devoted fan of mine...he and I share a secret...so we are going to let you guess what it is (no, he's not my brother.) I invited him to join the party tonight, and I'm glad he is here (well, not HERE, here, otherwise I'd have coffee by now!) But speaking of people who COULD be my manager, I must thank dear Rick for his mentioning all that info about me and my work. He has been so generous to me, to allow others to know about my music. We both thought you might like to know, since I've been compared to Karen my whole life, and who better than you dear fans of hers, might appreciate this kind of music. But even if you are not interested in hearing more about that, I would be happy to be here sharing my story about the Carpenters and their connection to my life, and hear about your love for Karen and Richard.

Oh, Cameron, it's so strange that you mention Sandi Patty. I would love to have her record one of my Christian originals, as I am a BIG FAN of hers. I only recently "discovered" her, and think that her song "FIND IT ON THE WINGS" is one of the best produced records I've ever heard...any genre, any time, any place. Do you know it?

I've listened to the bites Rick has posted, and to my ears it is amazing how much you do sound like Karen. But I like to think that there's enough of "you" (I don't know what else to call it!) to make it your own. We mused over "Love Me For What I Am" a year or so ago, and I kinda took it to be a warning shot across the bow, a kind of "Hey, I'm not trying to change you, so why are you trying to change me?" message. That's the worst thing people can try to do to each other, try to change them into what they want.

Palma I have totally enjoyed hearing about your connection with Carpenters. but I am also intrigued with you and your own music. You really do have a beautiful voice. I really like what I've heard. I believe I have a new singer to add to my list of favorites.
Others I love after Karen are Donna Summer and Sarah Brightman. Genrally though I listen to more male vocalists such as Coldplay (fantastic group), John Mayer, Pink Floyd, Beatles, ELO, Eagles and more.

Sandi Patty knows how to use her VOICE...in Gospel music fields, she is known as THE VOICE. On her FIND IT ON THE WINGS album...1995...I adore her song IF I WANT TO...This is produced by PHIL RAMONE of Karen Carpenter SOLO ALBUM fame. I can imagine Karen singing that beautiful song. Another great album of Sandi's is...ANOTHER TIME, ANOTHER PLACE...and...THESE DAYS. but basically anything Sandi does is amazing. She is truly gifted.
Other fave singers of mine, are ABBA...Aganetha and Anni Frida. Julie Andrews(she is just LOVERLY), Babs(need I say more...with a voice like buttah...), Mariah Carey(I am pleased as punches that she is back on top...with such a gorgeous multi octaved voice as hers), Anne Murray, Olivia Newton John, Dionne Warwick, Jewel, Celine Dion, Debby Boone, and Cherry Boone, Anita Kerr Singers...
What are some of your fave singers??

Just a brief overview, the pop discs I've made include many songs I sent to the Carpenters which they may have put into the "Gold Box" for future references. I have orchestrated them in recent years, and sung them myself, wishing on so many of them, Karen had lived long enough to issue them herself. Each disc has a mix of the ones they received, like "Fly" "Free Of You" "Everything To Me" "Oh, That I Could" "So Much In Love" and also has more recent songs I've written, including "What The Ocean Knows" "I Want To Stay" and many more. I am planning on remastering these C.D.'s to include my new, upbeat fun version of "Love Me For What I Am" where I try NOT to sound like Karen, and still think I do, but with an Al Jarreau sort of light hip hop twist. If the fans were interested, I would go further, and include the original demo of "Love Me For What I Am" with original lyrics as I sent it to Richard and Karen years ago. If the fans demanded MORE, I would love to go back in the studio and record many more songs of that era, including "Box Office Movie King" which was to be their next release of mine. When you hear it, you will see why she was going to record it. I am sure it would have been a big hit for her. It was about a woman who knew the REAL MAN who was a movie star that women just LOVED on the screen. She says:" You are the one woman run to see in pictures. You are the one has 'em crying in the aisles, Box-Office Movie King, I would give anything, if you really were the way you seem....One time, I was the girl you came home to at night in real life, while millions of others were wishing to take my place, Box Office Movie King, I would give anything, if the truth could finally be told, your heart is cold, I know it."
