This is one I left outta my N & T M C L I-V but I really would like to share it with you now. The date is a bit hazy but here I go. Some time in the mid 90s I bcame a member of the Carps Appre Soc in the UK..thrown out when I had served my purpose ( See NOW & T MY CS LIFE I-V) But a memorable occasion was when some of the Soc went to see a Tribute act at the London Palladium. There were about 12 of us & we sat in the very front row. The place was ab packed & I remember thinking if all these people were here to see a tribute act what would it have been like when the Cs were at the Palladium in 76.?? Unfortunately I was never able to see the Cs perform live so I wasnt too sure what my reaction would b to this tribute...The lights went down & thru the curtain a man in a silver shrit could be seen making his way to the piano . Smoke then wisped under the curtain & the sounds of SUPERSTAR surrounded the hall as the curtain went up & a female figure materialized down some stairs towards the right hand side of the stage thru the mist singing Long ago & oh so far away" There were gasps from the audience & someone screamed "Christ" at the back, people around me started crying & murmouring ( IM NOT MAKING THIS UP ) for the figure coming down the stairs to the right hand side of the stage & thru the mist was an exact replica of K, in fact some people were saying it WAS her such was the spell. The guy at the piano looked similar to Rich but it was WENDY ROBERTS who stole the show as Karen. I was standing up /sitting down/gibbering/crying/clapping & for the next hour & 1/2 so was most people there. Most of the hits were done & a few album songs too. All to perfection The CS TRIBUTE were WENDY ROBERTS & PHIL ALDRIDGE (I think that was their names) they say they were true fans & although they tried to get as close as possible to the real CS it was all done in good taste with the looks & stage/outfits etc..all I can say is they made me & the audience think they were REALLY the Cs such was their good outlaying detail & I can say that I have never enjoyed myself at a thertre/concert so much in my life not even to this day. I have never seen the show again even when they came to Hastings the town where I live I just couldnt, as my heart just couldnt take the emotion. I would have flipped as it was so good a show. When it ended the audience just wouldnt let them go & they had to perform FOR ALL WE KNOW on & on & On. But finally we did go home & for days I couldnt think of any thing else but THE TRIBUTE SHOW. So at least there are some good tribute Society bands out there at least. It was one night I will never forget. Ken Carps1000

Hi, I think it would be so neat to be able to meet Carpenters impersonators/sound alikes...just to hear how they sound. To close your eyes and imagine it IS Karen singing would be neat and an experience.

Would kind of be like watching a movie but live. I've heard of Wendy Roberts. I've heard several other Karen Carpenter impersonators. Of course none of them even come close to capturing the true and deeper essence of Karen but I do enjoy most of them out there. I am fortunate enough to have seen Carpenters in concert once. It was in 1977 for my 18th birthday. They were at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. I can say I actually got to see Karen do her fantastic drum solo. This is something I will always treasure.

;DThanks Ken for sharing such a terrific event. Guess it was a very good time for you although bittersweet. That's how I feel when "see the C's" on a video or just listen for a while to Karen. I really truly am more hooked than ever to hearing them. I wasn't fortunate enough to see them in concert when Karen was with us. I have listened to Jenny Sinclair and her tribute act. I think I'd like to see her. She's quite good, but if I did see such a show ...I'd want them to sing a few of their own songs or at least one or two more modern songs. I saw John Denver in '78 in concert and I was so blown away by the whole show. I felt so very thrilled to actually see who was then my idol. I was about 19 I think....anyway, ....

Carps1000: I enjoyed your stories very much and this last bit is great. You seem like you are a very sincere fellow who is also mighty funny sometimes. That is cool. I harbor nothing but jealousy towards all of you who were able to see the Carpenters in concert!! Darnit. Why, it is enough to make me see green.
