Besides Carpenters albums what are some of your favorites albums?
One of my all-time favorite albums is Juice Newton's 1981 smash album titled "Juice". Every single song on this one is excellent. Of course there are the hits; "Angel Of The Morning", "Queen Of Hearts" and "The Sweetest Thing (I've Ever Known)". She does covers of the Everly Brothers' "All I Have To Do Is Dream" and a great rendition of Paul Davis' "Ride 'Em Cowboy". Other strong tracks are "Headin' For A Heartache" and "River Of Love".
This is one outstanding album!

Wow, this is tough! I have so many. I know one of my favorites is Simon & Garfunkel's "Bridge Over Troubled Water". I love all the songs on there. I also like Greatest Hits by Barry Manilow, Fifth Dimension, Chicago and Helen Reddy, not to mention our pal, Donna Summer.

Easy - ONE of my all time favorites, besides Carpenters, is Billy's Joel's Storm Front. I think this is my favorite Billy Joel album, with Lenningrad being my favorite cut. I love the story - and if you watched the film of Billy and Band in Lenningrad, and know who Vicktor is, you will understand. Otis knows. Tim

Another all-time favorite album is Coldplay's debut album from the year 2000 "Parachutes". This is an excellent album with some real heartwrenching songs. Best tracks are "Don't Panic", "Shiver", "Spies", "Sparks", "Yellow" and "High Speed". Excellent all the way through.

You all may not believe this one....but two of my favorite albums come from Pink Floyd - both The Wall - it's incredibly textured, well crafted, and unbelievably well performed. And of course, the other Floyd album that is wonderful is Darkside. I didn't really enjoy Pink Floyd when they were in their heyday - they didn't come into play for me until about 8 years or so ago. Then.....I couldn't listen enough. Of course, all the Billy Joel albums are wonderful. Just The Way You Are is of course, one of BJ's finest - Diana Krall, and countless others have recorded this one. And, then there's New York State Of Mind, which is one of my favorite songs to sing, that Billy wrote. The other favorite is My Life. So, all of the albums are just excellent, in my opinion. I also have quite a collection of jazz albums. Diana Krall being one of my favorites, there's Ella Fitzgerald, Dizzy Gillespie, Glenn Miller (lots), Artie Shaw, Benny Goodman, Neil Hefti, Manhattan Transfer (most), Sarah Vaughan, Nancy Wilson and a host of others. Sandi Patti and Michael W. Smith are two of my favorite gospel artists. I have several of Sandi's works, and have seen her twice in concert. She is awesome. And, she aspired to Karen Carpenter. Awesome. More later. There are so many "other" artists that were just so great, but Carpenters remain #1 on my list. Ciao! Tim

Very interesting Tim that you would enjoy Pink Floyd. But I'm there with you. I love Pink Floyd. They put out a solid string of quality music. One of my favorites by them is the album "Obscured By Clouds". This one was released in 1972 and reached U.S. #46 and UK #6. It was the album just before their amazing blockbuster "Dark Side Of The Moon".
"Obscured By Clouds" is a lovely album containing acoustic ballads and straight forward rock tunes. One of their very best. It's just wonderful mellow entertainment by the group.
Another album I like is on the complete opposite spectrum of the music field. That is Crystal Gayle's 1977 platinum seller "We Must Believe In Magic". Every tune is a gem including the top 3 hit "Don't It Make My Brown Eyes Blue" - Crystal has quite an exquisite voice. Other excellent tracks are "I Wanna Come Back To You", "All I Wanna Do In Life". "River Road" is a wonderful country tune - Crystal really shines on this one. She does a great rendition of Cole Porter's "It's All Right With Me" and an excellent remake of Jimmy Love's hit of the late 50's "Green Door"..
Another excellent Crystal Gayle work is the 1983 soundtrack for Francis Ford Coppola's "One from the Heart". This soundtrack teams Crystal with Tom Waits. Oddly enough they end up being quite a good pairing. The songs are more in a jazz and blues vain. Crystal was excellent with the blues. She just has that certain style.

Been a while since anyone's posted here, but I'd like to add some groups/artists I've always loved, beside the Carpenters:
Bryan Duncan & NehoSoul (awsome christian soul/funk artist/group!!!) Steve Bell (very peaceful and soul soothing music...very poetic!) Dan Fogelberg (the man is a lovesong poet!) Ambrosia (passionate in their love-songs!) Eva Cassidy (wow! This lady can sing jazz, blues and soul! What a voice!) Eric Clapton (Just love his blues/soul style!!!) Michael McDonald (awesome r & b's...fantastic Motown music!) Michael Buble (love his modern day style "Swing" music & voice!!) Josh Groban (he touches my spirit...beautiful singer!) Johannes Linstead (the man's a genius with the guitar! - latin jazz music) Journey (great classics....passionate voice!) Gordon Lightfoot (very poetic, beautiful love-song writer!) Gino Vannelli (love his voice & strong passion in a song!) Acoustic Alchemy (just love these instrumentals!) Burton Cummings (never tire of his songs...great songwriter!) George Benson (love his style of jazz music) Kenny Loggins (beautiful songwriter & singer) Level 42 (awesome musicians! Love their upbeat funk sound!) Niel Diamond (he speaks my heart language of love & pain very well!) Paul Janz (fantastic songwriter with love songs!) Simply Red (they've got some excellent soulish, funky, bluesy, stuff!)
These are just a few, LOL!!! Sorry, once I got started, I couldn't stop.....and there's many more I'd have loved to included!!!! I'm into love songs, jazz, soul, funk, r & b...instrumentals....and almost anything from the 1970's!!!

Thanks for getting this thread started again Aaron.
a few more of my favorite non-Carpenters albums are:
"The Answer To The Question" by Tree63 - Tree63 is one of today's most popular Christian rock groups. They're single "Blessed Be The Name" was the biggest selling Christian music single of 2004. They're often compared to U2. Although I feel they're better than U2. Their harmonies are tight and the musicianship is absolutely outstanding. The lead singer John Ellis is, in my mind, the best male vocalist on the modern rock scene. He ranks up there with Chris Martin of Coldplay.
"X&Y" by Coldplay - This is easily my favorite album of 2005. The music and vocals are just absultely beautiful. Chris martin has a smooth and beautifulk voice - yet at the asme time it's modern rock. The music is intense. I just love this album.

I am so sorry Theresa, we have several different new people on the forum all at once and I got you confused with CenturyCity who is Aaron.
You mentioned several different exceelent artists on your list. Bryan Duncan is an outstanding vocalist. Same with Josh Groban and Michael buble.
Gordon Lightfoot is one of my alltime faves. We have a thread on him in this board. Ambrosia is another favorite.
Several people on this forum have mentioned Eva Cassidy. But I haven't heard her yet. I'll have to give her a listen.

Concerning Eva Cassidy.....unfortunatley, she too passed away, on Nov. 2, in 1996....at the young age of 33. She sadly died from bone cancer.
It's sad for me because my top, two all-time favourite female singers, are no longer with us.
I have to admit and say I've never been a big fan of female voices....because they are often too high & squeeky to me, and don't often carry enough "soul" for my liking. But sorry, that's just how I feel for me, doesn't make it true.....nor will others agree.
For me, I find Karen and Eva were two wonderful exceptions! Yes, there are alot of other wonderful female vocalists out there I like, but few reach me deeply as Karen and Eva did!!! I can listen to their voices all day long & never tire.....there's so much depth & feel to what they sing!
If you are interested in learning more about Eva Cassidy...... you can go to her web-site and learn more about her, and even sample some of her songs. Here's just a little discription of what one said about Eva's voice....
"Eva Cassidy had the most extraordinary and singular voice I had heard in a very, very long time," he says. "It was distinctive not only because of its power but because of its timbre when she sang quietly. It was so very mysterious -- it would just freeze me.
"The first time I ever heard her was in my office. She sang an a cappella `Amazing Grace' and I was just nailed to the wall. I made a very bad mistake. I should have signed her. . . . She was a kid. Who knew?"
Anyway.....just thought I'd share all this for those of you who may be interested. Later....
