I picked up a new Pat Benatar "Greatest Hits" CD last week. It contains 20 cuts from Heartbreaker to Hit me with your best shot to Love is a Battlefield to All fired up. These songs sound new and fresh, like a really good remix job. They don't sound dated and hold up well over time. Being a teen in the 80's and remembering when MTV was new, this is like a trip down memory lane. Pat recorded a song from the Tropico album called "Ooh Ooh song." It wasn't a favorite song of mine, but her vocals on it are amazing. She does some great harmony with herself and it is very effective. Though she was primarily known as a rocker, her softer side is just as impressive. We Belong and Le Bel Age are two more great "softer" songs from Pat. I hope she is remembered as one of the greats, because her voice puts her in that category.

Moe Pat Benetar is a classically trained vocalist and yes is one of the great artists of the 1980's. She and her husband Guitarist had an amazing ability to mix hard rock, pop and soft rock effectively. As you said Pat could be a tough rocking girl or a soft balladeer with little effort. I listen to her quite often and find her to be as good as when I first heard her, She was a pioneer not only in the women in rock idea but was one of the first artists to be played on MTV and unlike other radio staples made the transition effortlessly. I quite like Pat Benetar a great singer that can rock and sing you a love song and sound great doing both. Pat will always be a favorite of mine from the 1980's.

I also love Pat Benatar. Not only is she a talented singer she also has integrity and is a classy woman.
My favorite songs by her are: "My Clone Sleeps Alone" "We Live For Love" "So Sincere" "Treat Me Right" "You Better Run" "Never Wanna Leave You" "I'm Gonna Follow You" "Wuthering Heights" - love Benatar's version, although Kate Bush is the definitive recording. "Out Of Touch" "Anxiety (Get Nervous)" "Little Too Late" "Fire And Ice" "It's A Tuff Life" "True Love" - from 1991

According to the liner notes on the new CD, Pat's "You better run" was the 2nd video MTV ever played. I believe I've read that "Video killed the radio star" was the first video ever aired by MTV.

I love "Video Killed The Radio Star". I bought the single and the album when they were originally released. I still have both.
Another early video played on MTV was "Lucky Number" by Lene Lovich.

Hi Roland! I've never heard "On TV". When was that one released?
The album I have, which features "Video Killed The Radio Star" is called "The Age Of Plastic" and was released in 1980. It was good all the way through. Other favorite tracks are "Clean Clean" and "Johnny On The Monorail".

*On TV* was released in 1981. On the single that I own, the song *I Am A Camera* is on the B-Side. I think the album was called *Adventures In Modern Recording*. [glow=red,2,300][/glow][shadow=red,left,300] [/shadow][shadow=red,left,300]Roland Chayer[/shadow][shadow=red,left,300] [/shadow]
